Is my chicken being bullied, sick, or just broody?

I have a jersey giant hen that has been broody for a couple weeks (I have even dunked her in water and she won't quit being broody, now I'm just blocking off the coop) and around the same time she has lost a lot feathers. She acts fine around the other hens and I never see her get picked on...

Today I came across my first shell-less egg. I make sure to have oyster shell in the run but they seem to never eat it. How do I get them to eat it? Maybe I should tell them no treats until they finish their oyster shell...

    Introducing new chicks to flock

Hello! I have four baby chicks and two of them are almost ready to go out to the coop. How does one do this? My new chicks would still need chick grit and chick feed, but I assume my hens would not want to eat chick grit and chick feed. So what is the general procedure of integrating new flock...

Hello! I'm planning out what breeds of chicks to get this year. I want an Australorp, and my local feed store has Blue Australorps. Is it any different than the Black Australorp, or is it the same bird, but different color? (I'm also planning to get a Jersy Giant, Rhoad Island Red, and...

    New Chicken coop

Hey everyone! I'm thinking of building a new, and nicer chicken coop this spring and was wondering if anybody had some good plans for a 10 chicken coop that you can walk into. Would that be considered a medium or large chicken coop? Thanks! (It also snowed today and my Orpingtons did NOT like...

How many eggs should I expect a week?

I have 3 BO's and they are 18 weeks old. How many eggs should I expect a week? Also, I haven't seen them go into the nesting boxes once by themselves. So when should I expect the ladies go and try out the nesting boxes? I have fake eggs in the boxes but they still show no interest yet.

    Wattle development at 15 weeks?

One of my chickens (15 weeks) is starting to get a darker comb and wattles coming in. Is this early for a hen or does this mean it's a cockrel? Also should I start offering oyster shells soon? Also my chickens are Buff Orpingtons. Thanks! Hope you all are having a great summer!
