    Sebright Bantam noises...

I have a Serama chick about the same age as yours that made the whistling sound. It ended up being because she had an upper respiratory infection! You may want to check out your Sebright and make sure it isnt whistling because it's having trouble breathing. The Serama recovered and stopped...

    Ameraucana Hens Loosing Beard Feathers!

I took the birds to a local breeder and he said that because the EE is not an actual breed and more of a hybrid (even most Ameraucana's are hybrids even though they dont tell you) they are having this problem. EE's are bred solely for their eggs and the coloring and quality of their feathers do...

    Ameraucana Hens Loosing Beard Feathers!

No, my EE's both still have no beards and I have been looking at the skin under their chins almost daily, there doesnt seem to be any new feathers growing. It is just bare skin under their chins and I am not sure if it will ever grow back? I have kind of given up on the situation. It hasnt...

Do I need to trim their nails?

I agree with the others, I wouldnt start trimming them yet, since they are only 8 weeks old. I would wait until they are good sized pullets and able to run around and file their nails themselves. However, I do trim my hens nails at least once a year, this helps to avoid any type of turning or...

    Hens aren't broody...

I would give up trying to get them to go broody, I tried keeping my hen in the coop with eggs but it doesnt work, they go broody when they want to. For the incubator I have always put them in it as soon as possible, though maybe someone else has a different opinion?

Best chicks for laying and family friendly

We have two Buff Orpington Hens that lay well and are very docile and follow us around the yard. Our two wyandottes are just a little bit higher maintenance and tend to act a little more snotty than the Orpingtons. We also have three silkies and they are friendly as well but seem to have a lot...

    Hens aren't broody...

I dont know much about hatching eggs but I have tried to get one of my hens to sit on eggs before and it didnt/doesnt work in my experience. Some chickens will just never go broody and some (silkies) wont get off the nest! What breed of chickens do you have?

    Ameraucana Hens Loosing Beard Feathers!

I dont think anyone is picking at them. They all get along very well and seem to have enough room. They get the full run of the backyard 3-4 times a week. Thanks for the suggestion though I will keep a close watch on them all!

Silkie Hen Lost All Feathers On Her Head And Chin

I think I will try getting some Ivomec and see if it helps. I am a totally new with all of this and I have heard Ivomectrin and Ivomec thrown around a lot and I cant figure out if they are the same thing or just very similar? Also, regarding the head picking at night that is a possibility, but...

    Ameraucana Hens Loosing Beard Feathers!

Hello, I have to Ameracauna Bantam hens that have lost the feathers on their beards. Both birds are from different breeders and are not related at all so it is very weird to me that only the two Ameracaunas are having this problem (7 other hens/breeds). Has anyone experienced this before and...

Buff Orpington Has Red Legs and Feet

Hello, I am not sure if this is a problem or not but my Buff Orpington Hen's feet and legs are reddish/pink. I heard somewhere that this could be just scar tissue from Scaly Leg Mites? I am just wondering if I should be worried or not? Thanks! 1)What type of bird , age and weight. Buff...

Is This Scaly Leg Mites? Suggested Treatment?

Hello, I am wondering if what I am seeing in these two hens is Scaly Leg Mites? Both are feather footed and I cant tell if it is just how the feathers grow or if it is a problem? All of the other 8 clean legged hens have very smooth feet and legs that look nothing like this. There is one Buff...

White Silkie lost her crown! Help me.

I also have this problem with one of my black silkie hens. She is completely bald and is starting to loose the feathers on her neck as well. I took her to the feed store owner who always seems to be able to help me with my chickens and he was pretty stumped as well as to what the problem was. He...
