I may be wrong, because I’m not any kind of chicken expert, but I’d say it’s not something to be too worried about. I have a 5 week old Bantam Cochin (who could’ve been but didn’t turn out to be frizzle) that is still not completely feathered out. He’s just now starting to fill in and it seems...
I currently have 6, nearly 5 weeks old, chicks and I’m debating with myself wether or not to let them spend the night in the coop.
The past couple days I’ve been bringing them outside for little “field trips” and they’ve been doing great. I’m starting to think they should spend the night soon...
This is the most recent picture I have, taken a couple days ago.
The picture I inserted was clear, but now it’s blurry.. not sure why 🤷♀️ I apologize for the quality
I hadn’t really bothered to notice since I’ve had her, but I just recently had the thought, “If she’s supposed to be a blue Ameraucana.. why is she white?” And now I need an answer 😬!!
I know she’s definitely an Ameraucana because she has the signature ‘cheek poofs’ but she doesn’t seem very...
I’m a huge reptile lover! I’ve got a leopard gecko, two whites tree frogs (one that’s about a year old and the other about half a year old), as well as a baby crested gecko— and that’s just the reptiles/amphibians!
I have a lavender Orpington chick which’s wings are growing very strange. I don’t even know how to explain it really so here’s a picture. All the other chicks wings look normal. Is this little pullet ok?
They’re apparent all the same age, but I assume maybe a couple days apart at the most. The one who’s doing the pecking is actually one of the smallest, so I don’t think she’d be other than the others.
So out of my six chicks I have one (an Olive Egger) that likes to peck at the other chicks eyes and toes, and sometimes beaks. It doesn’t seem to be causing any injuries or anything, and luckily it doesn’t happen too occasionally... but I still find it concerning. The other chicks don’t stay...
So, I just got my babies this morning and I’ve been constantly adjusting the heat lamp.
I’ve been told that the correct temperatures for 0-1 week is 90-95°F and to lower that temperature every week, but so far I’ve noticed that they all huddle if the temperature in under 93° and seem...
I have worked all month long to prepare for these chicks. The brooder is all set up, I’ve already bought food and have the heat lamp ready to go. The chicks are set to arrive TOMORROW!! Which although I’m super excited, makes me a little nervous! This is my first time doing this completely...
I’ve ordered 6 new chicks (technically one is a bantam), and I’m planning on using my extra bathtub as a brooder. I’m currently buying things and getting everything set up so I don’t have a picture of it but I’ve got a while til they will arrive (they hatch April 12th and will be here soon after...
I’d love to have a walk in coop, it sounds a lot better than the smaller ones but I just don’t know how I’d connect it to the run (see my response to 3KillerB’s:
The reason I was hoping to put it inside the run was because I don’t really have a way to attach it. My run is actually an old dog lot and has only two doors, both human sized. I just thought it would be difficult to attach something chicken sized to a human sized door.
Ok so, I’m back once again with a new idea. Previously I was thinking about converting a playhouse into a chicken coop, but after talking with several users about how much “editing” would have needed to be done, I’ve decided against that since it would probably be cheaper and more satisfactory...
The only issue with chicken coops you buy is that they won’t be sufficient enough for 6-10 hens :/
I’m currently looking into building a coop instead. The playhouse just seems like it will require too much “editing” for how much it’s worth.
Ahh I see, thanks for the advice. I’ll definitely take that into consideration when finalizing which coop I’ll buy/build.
As for electrolytes, is there a specific store bought kind I should give them? Or is there a way to supplement it another way? (I know for calcium you can grind up their...
