From what I was told you should wait until a couple days after the hatch and do it at night, all in one go, as to not stress anyone. That's what I plan on doing.
I can't speak from experience, but had mine taken to the dog crate I would have moved them out at night a couple days after the hatch. Good to know that they'll mix with the other chicken right away.
No, the nesting box is a little high for that I think at eighteen inches. I believe it would make the ramp too steep. Though in the smaller coop I could construct a ramp and they'd be just fine. Good idea with constructing a ramp though, I may look into that when I get home. Thanks!
I set twelve to hatch on the 10th, lost one and am down to eleven. It's my first time and very excited for my girl to be a mama. I had six Lavender Orpingtons and six Blue Laced Red Wyandottes. Like I said, I'm down one but not sure which breed. I like surprises. :) Anyway, very much looking...
Okay, so I have a broody sitting on eleven eggs right now. She has been sitting in the nesting box which is about eighteen inches off of the ground. I tried to move her to a dog kennel but she kept trying to get out and not sitting on the eggs. Anyway, I know once the chicks hatch this will be a...
I received my chicks yesterday and all seemed to be great. Today I noticed one sleeping a lot, which I know chicks do, but when I returned from lunch I knew something was wrong. I picked her up and her body is just limp, her head dangles, her eyes are closed and she looks really bad. She is...
I have a flock that three are three weeks older than the rest. I switched to layer at twenty-three weeks because I new my Dom's were about to start laying, and I was also running out of the start and grow. They have taken to it fine and I don't provide the oyster shell. My girls free-range all...
Mine said no to the pellets at first, they ate a small amount. But after about a week or so, they are eating them up. Give it time, they'll get it. I was having a problem with them wasting so much crumble as well.
I also got surprised with a cockerel some months ago. He and I were very close and he was my baby, UNTIL...he started crowing and becoming a man. Now, every day is the same thing. He comes and does his little mating dance, I can't pick him up normally (it normally involves a mild chase), and he...
I got my first egg yesterday from one of my girls! It was Edie who laid first, who was also the first girl that I've seen mating with my roo. She laid another one this morning, which I wasn't expecting! I was just ecstatic!

Hey, that is great information! Thanks a lot! You know, I just flew back and forth a couple of times and I now know what I was pushing that button for. I did declare things so I had to be inspected, but I recall pressing the button a few times. I didn't know that's what it was for. My...

Well, as I said before, I am going to attempt to get some health certificates for them. IF I am not able to do that, then at that point I will just try and cross. You don't normally declare anything when crossing the border going into Mexico, or at least I have never had to. But I have...
Well, I am going to a place called Todos Santos...it's in Baja California Sur so it is quite a drive. My intention is to drive through Texas and cross at Nuevo Loredo and head straight to Mazatlan to hop on the ferry (which is sixteen hours) and arrive in La Paz. I am going to be settling there...
Hey y'all. I will be moving to Mexico in February and I have a flock of five that I want to bring with me to my new home. Does anyone know anything about crossing the border with them? I'm driving so the plane isn't a problem, but I just can't find anything online about it. Thanks in advance for...
