I think it was the diatomaceous earth I put in the coop, her comb is bright red and I read how it can cause issues like this. There are no new birds introduced. I will worm them and dust them with gardstar and hope she pulls through. DE causes issues and I don’t think it will be contagious to...
The symptoms include crackled breathing (like she’s gargling something), sometimes she coughs but nothing comes up. Her throats clear and I don’t she anything blocking her airway. I thought it was the DE I spread around the coop yesterday but she is the only one showing these symptoms. I have...
My father in law is telling me about putting the poultry dust in a pillow case and then putting the bird in the pillow case and then letting the chicken flap around for a few seconds. Would that work?
I’m not very knowledgeable on the whole mite and lice problem, I have been fortunate enough to be mite and lice free for a while, but I am seeking the best possible ways to eliminate and prevent the problem, any advice would be very much appreciated.
Here’s the bald spot, also found a bunch of mites on them.😫. Sometimes I wish everything could just work out for once, but nooooo, it’s just one thing after another.
It could be both the rooster and a type of early molt, I will to spread some DE around the coop too if it’s those darn red mites. I have some left over grower that I can feed those couple hens.
I don’t think I will be able to get picture under the wing, they are not very tame and don’t like to be touched. We used to have two roosters but I took care of him and now we only have the one. The one we kept doesn’t seem to have a favorite.
Would that cause bald spots where no feathers grow, I know the rooster mounts them on their “shoulders” but I didn’t think it would bald the feathers underneath
These hens are losing their feathers and not regrowing them, they have huge bald spots under their wings. We only have one rooster with 11 hens, they free range on a 5 acre plot of land. They are feed layer feed in their coop as well as black oil sunflower seeds, cracked corn, etc. Is there...
I would not recommend putting multiple open water dishes around your property, the water can create a horrible mosquito problem if you live in an area with a higher humidity. Just want to warn you if you start to see an increase in those pestering mosquitoes.
