Should I warn neighbor that dog might get shot?

It's EXTREMELY frustrating to have uncaring neighbors that allow their animals (illegally) to come on your property and do harm. There is NO good, easy answer! You have to weigh the relationship with your neighbors against your chickens ... vindictive neighbors can make your life miserable. It's...

Should I warn neighbor that dog might get shot?

I've had a number of chickens killed over the last 2 years from neighbors' dogs. Animal control told me that I have 3 choices: 1. Shoot the dog (but I consider the irresponsible neighbor the problem) 2. Trap the dog and call animal control to pick it up and charge the owner to get it back...

Why are my chickens staying in their coop?

They have probably just naturally slacked off of egg production over winter to give their bodies a chance to recover nutrients. This happened to me for the first time here in north Fl. I had Rhode Island reds in Tx and they never slowed down on laying throughout the year. I had 3 chickens taken...

    Chicken COVID?

This last month has taken it's toll with both me and my husband getting COVID. We were able to care for our flock and other animals but it was tough ... we do what we gotta do! I saw a news article about pets/animals catching COVID from owners! Does anyone know where I can get reliable EXPERT...

Well ... STILL having Roo aggression issues but I keep catching him by his legs (or whatever I can get a hold of) and holding him upside down and helpless for a minute. Seems to be helping so I will continue to try this but it's obviously not an instant cure! EVERYONE KEEP PEROXIDE, BANDAIDS and...

    Aggressive rooster issues

That is horrific! Have not seen that level of aggression towards the hens before! Sounds counterproductive to the natural purpose of breeding. My rooster has pulled neck feathers (holding on to the hen) and scraped back feathers off with his spurs. Which is why I remove that fingernail like...

    Aggressive rooster issues

I definitely feel your pain! I raised my baby rooster in my bathtub and hand fed him. After he matured he wants to kill me! He hides under my truck and in bushes and ambushes me! Word to EVERYONE out there ... let your spur wound bleed for a bit to rinse nasty bacteria out - flush with peroxide...

    Fall/Winter Egg Layers

Thanks for your info! I had not experienced this before and my husband was searching our 20 acres for hidden egg stashes! I told him the fact that the hens went up in the coop every night meant they weren't laying elsewhere ...

    Fall/Winter Egg Layers

I had Rhode Island Red chickens in Texas for 10 and never noticed any variation in egg production. Now I live in north Florida and have Wyandotts, Brahmas, Plymouth Barred Rock and muttens (what I call chickens of either mixed or unknown breed). All my chickens are free range over 20 acres. In...

This is the "sweet" baby in my bathtub!!! He obviously doesn't remember!!! It's easy to do and saves wear and tear on the hens' backs!

I can hand feed him treats along with the hens but hasn't seemed to make a difference! I think a bell to warn me when he's near is going to be worth a try. Either way, I'm not cooking him!!!

Hello Nebraska! Just spurs! But it's amazing how much power there is in his legs even though I've removed the outer spur coat.

    Just Want to Help

I've been a vegetarian for 35 years but I do eat eggs and cheese so cooking a chicken has never been an option for me. They are really pets ... with the added benefit of keeping the ticks under control on our property! Plus they are just so enjoyable to watch!!!
