Major Pecking Injury-How Can I Help Her? Pics Attached

I actually don’t have any roosters, all hens that are laying. I had to re-home 2 birds that plucked feathers constantly and made several birds bloody. Two had vents pecked so severe they died. I was not there to see any of this happen, so I don’t know if blood was drawn with feather plucking and...

Major Pecking Injury-How Can I Help Her? Pics Attached

Welp, this girl is doing a lot better. Haven’t noticed any more maggots and she def looks like she’s starting to heal. The hole is still there, but everything is dry. Her feathers are now covering it. My question is, when can I move her back to the flock? I realize that she can’t be released...

Thank you!!!! How much soap (or what kind of soap) or Betadine in water? I don’t have Betadine on hand so will start with soap and get Betadine today. I thought I had managed flies so I’m surprised. She is currently locked in my laundry room🤦🏻‍♀️

Major Pecking Injury-How Can I Help Her? Pics Attached

Unfortunately I did just find one! I removed it with a tweezers and noticed another one that burrowed inside her where I can’t see. I will keep watching, snatching and spraying with Vetericyn…but what else can/should I do?! UGH I thought I was on top of this, I feel so bad for her

Major Pecking Injury-How Can I Help Her? Pics Attached

Hello! I have had the unfortunate luck of aggressive pecking that has led to the death of 2 birds, and now severely injured a 3rd. The bird I believed was responsible for the deaths (always plucking feathers and found pecking away/all bloodied up) was re-homed to a full time free range flock...

    Black Stool-Cause for real concern?

Hello! I have a flock of 12 hens that are 25 weeks old. Now and then I’ve seen a dark stool over the months, but have noticed more as of late. I’m not sure what the cause can be, as everything I read says it’s internal bleeding or from eating something dark. Neither of those seem likely for my...

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

I’m not thinking a predator because I have 2 outdoor dogs that eat every animal they can catch on our property. We thankfully don’t have critters that get into our veggie garden ever for this reason (my chicken run is built with an invisible fence around it to protect the chickens from the...

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

Thank you ♥️ Well, I let the aggressive chicken out today after 4 nights in a cage. The hens with missing back feathers were already starting to grow some fluff back. I watched her for about 10min this morning and she had no pecking behavior. I checked about 3 other times throughout the day and...

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

Thank you for all of your help! It is appreciated more than you know. I’m so glad this website is here for the best advice. ♥️ Unfortunately she passed away a little earlier this evening. Her crop wasn’t changing and she was refusing to eat or drink. She became limp and seemed to be choking or...

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

Thank you! She is pooping. Loose/watery stool. No egg or membrane has been laid, and has not been acting like she needs to lay an egg either. She’s either standing, standing with head down or just laying down. I have not felt an egg, but I will Google to make sure I’m doing it right? How...

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

This is after being washed once this morning. I left water only in her cage when I left the house (with a little apple cider vinegar in it). I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing. And crop def feels quishier, as I can tell she’s drank some water (I’m keeping track).

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

I am not home and will get a photo soon. I felt her crop this morning and it’s squishy. So now we are most likely dealing with sour crop as well. I picked her up to rinse her bottom. Her head was tilted down and her bottom up, and she regurgitated warm liquid all over. I stood her upright...

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

Can you tell me how long discharge/urates can typically continue? I’m having a hard time getting it off her skin right below her vent (caked on like cement). She is scabbing over where she was pecked and everything is less swollen. Just the continued discharge. She is starting to get depressed...

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

Thank you so much! I am having a hard time getting it off her skin around her vent. It’s pretty well caked on there. She is not taking to soaking very well either, so I will keep working at it. I noticed a fly in the house my garage where I had her so brought her in and have been monitoring. 👍🏻

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

You’re the best, thank you for all of this helpful info! Her bottom is looking better today. Lots of dried white discharge, so tried to clean that up some this morning and will rinse throughout the day. Her food has always been crumbles or pellets, and she has laid a few bigger eggs. Thanks again!

    Vent Injury w/ White Discharge

Hello! I have a 22 wk old hen who has been laying for a little over 2 weeks. I’ve noticed a couple bloody eggs from her over the last few days, but didn’t think anything of it because she is a newer layer and they were bigger/double yolk eggs. Today I noticed a bloody butt, and flockmates...
