Thank you so much that is so helpful to know! Your response gives me relief. Google was no help. I couldn’t find any pictures similar. I felt the same that if she’s almost a week and no other signs of distress or illness that it might’ve been a birth defect. I will definitely be keeping a close...
This is a 6 day old chick. I noticed the lump yesterday but went back to pictures I took the first day and realized we bought this chick with the lump already on its beak. Has anyone seen this before? If so do you know what it is and what caused it? It’s not a scab either. She’s been eating and...
I just noticed this bump on its beak yesterday but when I went to check photos I took the first day we got this batch the bump was already there so we bought her with it on it without realizing it. Has anyone seen this before? If so, do you know what it is and what caused it? It’s not a scab...
I just got this pop up pet tent from Amazon and it hardly takes up a lot of space. It could go in your room, bathroom, honestly anywhere unless you have dogs inside. I have to keep mine in our office room cause we have dogs that would get to them.
They’re on puppy pads but I only did that cause I read how much of a mess the shavings are but I’m going to try putting shavings in instead today and see how that helps. The grass and dirt are a great idea thank you!!
I’m new to raising baby chicks.
I have a couple 2 week old chicks who are desperately trying to fly out of the brooder they’re in. They’re inside in a 27 gallon tote with all the things they need but just wondering if this is normal? Every time I open the top of the brooder to clean it they’re...
I have small flock of 4 hens and they’re currently on their first day of Safeguard for deworming. I noticed a few REALLY green droppings that were more wet than usual. I’m wondering if this has to do with the Safeguard since that is the only thing that has changed in their diet. Any advice is...
This is my girl Ramona and I know she is a golden Wyandotte but she has different characteristics compared to my other Wyandotte. I’m wondering if she could be mixed and if so I’m not sure what but if someone thinks she might be mixed or I’m just delusional let me know haha
They have oyster shells and eggshells on the side and for feed it’s been Nutrena Country Feeds Egg Producer. I was giving them scratch and peck scratch as treats but I stopped giving them treats once I saw that soft eggshell. Since I posed this the other day she has been eating, drinking and...
I have a year old Wynadotte and I noticed the other day her vent was prolapsed. It was minor so I gave her a warm bath and it helped it 100% haven’t seen anything wrong since BUT we have had calcium problems with switching to a new feed I’ve noticed my girls are calcium deficient so I’ve been...
Any advice or tips to help get rid of squirrels that keep trying to eat the chicken feed. Our feed is enclosed in a bin but they keep coming into the run and eating out of the feeders to the point I’m just paying to feed squirrels 🫠 I don’t know how to get rid of them besides waiting out there...
I just brought home a new hen she is 12 weeks old and I currently have three laying hens that are over a year old. Any advice/tips/recommendations on what I should or shouldn’t be doing would be so helpful. I technically have two coops, one isn’t fully set up but will work, and if need be I can...
What are your thoughts/opinions on bringing in 2 roosters into my flock of only 3 girls for a couple weeks? I have a friend who is moving and needs to put their roosters somewhere for a bit but my concern is 1. I don’t want fertilized eggs 2. I’ve never had a rooster let alone two and my girls...
I’m very new to having backyard chickens (1 week) and the coop we built has a nesting box at the top. We have three chickens, one is laying currently and I’ve noticed when she’s in the nesting box getting ready to lay it takes her a really long time to sit still and get comfortable. The box is...
