HI! I'm in Camden. I have ayam cemani, bantam cochins (frizzle!!), blue and black copper marans, LF cochins, longcrowers, bantam la fleche, bielefelters, yokohamas, exchequers, and penedesencas. Oh and sebastopol geese and 3 mini zebu cattle! <3
I had a migraine for two days and didn't gather eggs. I have a couple of cochins who I can't seem to break of brooding so... I went out today to find them sitting on 45 eggs. Would you still eat them after 2 days of being under hot mamas?
I have two little bantam cochins sitting on about 10 eggs together. The nest and eggs got pretty wet in the rain last night. I got them all set up in a new dry bin and then hens seems happy enough after the traumatic experience. Will the eggs be ok to hatch still after getting completely soaked?
I have ducklings coming from a hatchery next week. I'm planning to put them with my geese to raise. Any suggestions for a low water source for the ducklings? My geese have a couple of kiddie pools but the ducklings won't be able to reach those. What do you use that you love?
Ok, took the turner out. Found another one pipped. Yay!
I just talked to the woman I got them from (we traded 24 eggs for fun). She said Marans often hatch early. I've never read that.
Now I'm excited. It's HATCH DAY!
Just heard chirping coming from my incubator room. Very confused as nothing is due to hatch for 4 more days. There's a brand new BCM trying to climb over other eggs in the turner. There's still 4 days left on the counter! I was SO not expecting that!
Think I should take the turner out today in...
I've had 7 goose eggs in my last two incubation attempts. Not one has had any development at all. Incubator temp is 99-100 consistently. Does this mean my ganders aren't doing their jobs? Or is there some other reason for this? I'm so heartbroken. :(
Now I have two mama geese each sitting on 9...
I inherited 7 lovely sebastopol geese when I bought my farm in October. The only thing the previous owners told me is they range in age from 1-5 yrs.
I think only one bird is laying eggs (I only ever got one egg per day) and now she's sitting on a nest and there have been no new eggs. Think...
Thanks! The humidity did get really high when like 5 or 6 hatched all at once. Maybe just too much chick juice in there all at once. lol
I'll try giving it a warm bath. :)
One of my chicks that hatched late yesterday has dried but not fluffed. It looks wet but it's not. It kinda feels crunchy. All the other chicks before and after this one fluffed up fine.
Thoughts on why and how to fix it?
I have a tiny broody bantam sitting on eggs in a nest box that's about 4 ft off the floor. Is it safe for her to hatch the chicks there? Every time I have moved a broody, they have stopped sitting, so I am hesitant to do that.
Thoughts or experience?
