I added 4 new hens to my flock, and one of them would drop her eggs under the roost, as the shell was so soft she probably couldn't tell she had laid it. I began adding my own calcium citrate capsules (broken open) to their water, and very quickly I saw improvement. When I learned that we're...
I'm really nervous about my first try at hatching! I just read your information, and we're on day 12. I had already added water before I read this, so I'll let it dry up and then hope the eggs have been able to have enough evaporation. I don't understand about your mention of "the wire". My LG...
Dawn, I would love to have a few buff hens. I have only one and that I raised and would like a few more. Do you have any to sell? 502 447 1243

Last fall a beautiful rooster came into our neighborhood, and he lived off the land until this summer when something must've caught him and broke his right leg or dislocated it at the hip. It is now useless, but he is now living with my hens and has done well until now. He has been able to hop...
Well, I'm new and don't quite get the hang of what's going on here, but I'm looking for a few good Golden Comet laying hens, young and productive! I'm in Louisville and would love to hear from you if you have some!
Thanks, Gail
I bought 6 hens initially and fell in love with Margie, the little golden comet. She's a friendly girl who will eat from my hand and faithfully lays an egg a day and they are sooo big and nice. I would like to have more like her; can you help me?I'm in Louisville, Ky.
Thanks,
Gail
We had tornado conditions yesterday; 75 mph winds and heavy rain. Where do you think my girls chose to be? Yup; outdoors huddling under a cluster of vines on the fence. They came in a bit earlier, but I don't understand their choice. Today however, no eggs. No doubt it scared them to death.
My method of cleaning under the roost works fine in moderate weather, but when it's cold, it won't. Right now I'm changing a sheet of plastic daily, hosing it off and hanging it to dry and placing another under the roost. I like the henhouse to smell good, and it needs to be cleaned daily to...
My cleanup system included putting a clean plastic sheet under the roost daily, hosing it off, drying it and putting a clean one in its place. Today I saw what looked like thick white threads, and may have been worms. Do I need to look at a de-wormer, and if so, can I eat the eggs? How do you...
I'm so new that other than this page (New Members), I can't find how to post a "new post"! I can't find anything other than on this page that indicates a new post. Duh! I have just added 2 new hens to my group of 4, only 2 of which have been laying. Now with the 2 new hens, only 1 is laying and...
Allison,
Thanks for the response. I bought bird netting and covered the entire pen, which was quite an undertaking, and when I finished, the missing hen re-apperaed. I stood looking at her in sheer disbelief! She's back and I purchased 2 new hens and now, nobody's laying! I'm wondering if...
Hello! As you might have guessed from my introduction, I lost a fully grown Aracauna hen yesterday evening to an unknown predator. There were no clues at all no sings of struggle, no feathers, nothing. I have noticed several holes in the ground in the chicken pen, like maybe a snake or something...
