I got my first ever olive/green egg this weekend. The cutest smallest eggs I've seen! I have two more that should start laying brown eggs any day too! I lost my one that started laying a month ago, broke my heart. Can't lie after getting my first colored egg I want to buy more chickens that...
I finally got our first egg!! She was at 17 weeks! They are so tiny and so stinking cute! I have 3 more that should start laying mid/end of the month! EEEK I can't wait LOL
No matter the breed...the first egg is so exciting! I have 3 that are laying, but I have 1 baby that should start any day and 3 more by August hopefully!! I can't wait to see their first eggs!! I still excited any day they all lay! :)
Oh thank you so much! I may be new but gosh I just love having chickens hahaha. I live in town so I'm limited. I'd probably be in trouble if I lived in the country hahahaha
Thank you so very much for responding! I had this feeling it was time to switch but I'm still learning. I mean they are thriving and spoiled LOL but I want to make sure I'm doing the right things! I have to buy a new bag this weekend so I was looking for some reassurance I guess. I know some...
Ok I have 1 hen that is already laying, one that is 15 1/2 weeks, and 3 hens that are about 12 weeks. I've been giving them chick/grower feed, putting some Oyster Shells in there for the laying hen, and various treats sporadically. Since I have another chick coming up on laying soon, is it ok...
Doesn't seem to be! They all seem happy as can be. Just seem to be happy inside hahaha. Eating like crazy still and drinking like normal! I just hope they aren't preventing my Dolly from going in and laying haha!
Question. I have 1 grown hen, 1 chick about 14 weeks, and 3 about 11 weeks. The last week my grown hen has stopped laying for about 4-5 days which is unlike her. I've also noticed that all 4 of the younger chicks have been spending more time inside the coop instead of out in the run like they...
Are they all the same age? They do start to assert a pecking order as they get older. However, they usually don't go to this extreme. I also agree that if they are a lot of them in a small space it may cause boredom and more issues. Are you sure they are all hens as well?
I just turned my...
I got 3 grown hens from someone. One didn't take long to start laying. The 2nd one took probably 2 months. My last one, (a leghorn) I just finally just got my first egg from! It took her 3 months to get comfortable, and she was also spoiled. Now she lays every day/every other.
It's hard...
Ahh that's what I'm thinking. When we hatched them I thought we had Isa Browns so I "knew" they had to be hens since they were brown when hatched.
The two big ones have also become more aggressive and really had me questioning it
So when I hatched my babies I was told they were Isa Brown's so I knew I had hens. Well I asked the lady I got them from and she said rooster was Rhode Island Reds (because I don't think they look like Isa Brown's) Well now I'm afraid I have Henrietta might be a Henry and Kit is a boy as well...
I've found this interesting as I have 2 groups of chicks that are 4 weeks apart. I put my older ones (9 weeks) out in their coop a couple of weeks ago. My little ones are 5 weeks so I'm going to wait another week or two before I put them out. I had some people tell me just to put them...
I literally cannot believe I posted about this this morning and now I have an egg!! I'm beyond ecstatic! And I've been trying to make it to the store for 2 days now to try some oyster shells! I'm for sure going tonight.
And I think I'm going to get some fake eggs to set in the laying boxes...
