Stepping on her feet..keeping to herself..injured or bow legged? help!

Sorry, just had to bump this...hoping someone will help.. I've had recommendation that she'll need to be culled. I just keep hoping as she grows she'll out grow it?? Am I being silly? I watched her closely today and when she walks her feet cross in front of eachother (instead of straight). Her...

Stepping on her feet..keeping to herself..injured or bow legged? help!

We've just begun to realize that one of our little Welsummers (maybe 8wks+/-1wk) is having leg problems... She's been staying up in the coop by herself, not coming down the ladder into the run with the others, just perched and cheeping. When she does walk (which isn't often) her legs cross so...

Stepping on her own feet, even perched..bow legged? injured?

We've just begun to realize that one of our little Welsummers (maybe 8wks+/-1wk) is having leg problems... She's been staying up in the coop by herself, not coming down the ladder into the run with the others, just perched and cheeping. When she does walk (which isn't often) her legs cross so...

    slowed egg production ??

I really don't know.....it's been really mild, nice weather here. We did switch them to a layer pellet because they were wasting so much feed...I wonder if they just don't prefer it, or if it's missing something that they are getting when they get in the grass.

    Should we eat the eggs??

What makes you think they may have eaten rat poision?? I would guess that if they had they would've gotten sick I think I've read that their poop turns bluish if they've ingested poision.. Better safe than sorry, I say don't eat them!

I need to talk about my mean cochin

What are the breeds of your other hens?? Seems strange..Our cochin is pretty much the bottom of the totem pole and is quick to dart from potential conflict with others. I suppose every flock is different though! Our top hen, a BR, does bully the other hens if they get inbetween snacks and her...

    slowed egg production ??

We have five hens who are just a couple months shy of a year old. We've been consistently getting 3-5eggs a day, averaging 4. We recently went away for 11 days of which they were watched by friends but didn't have nearly as much acsess to pasture (although they have a very good sized run that...

Barred Rocks!!!!!!!!! Why are they so mean?

Eeek, I kind of have to agree.. Our BR rooster got really mean with our kids and actually killed two of our hens. Now that he's gone, one of our two BR hens is the boss and she is SO mean to the other hens. The other day when I was tossing scraps I actually saw her grab the other BR hen by the...

    Copper Marans egg colour

I thought it went the opposite..that they got lighter in color the longer they had been laying? But, maybe the color peaks?? I do know that color intensity varies from one marans to another.

Blue Copper Maran or Black Copper Maran chick?

Do you know for sure it's not a cuckoo marans? Does it have the light spot on the top of it's head? If you know for certain it's either blue or black, my guess would be blue...

2wk old chicks need light still??

hmmmm...that's an interesting idea, the little boxes to escape to.. i was planning on waiting a week or two to introduce them.. you really think it's possible for me to put my 2day olds in with my 2wk olds if they have a small place to escape to? Really can't separate the brooder well, given the...

2wk old chicks need light still??

Thanks, that's what we figured but wanted to double check...think we found a way to shine it on our 2day olds and the 2wk olds, separate bins, sharing light though.

2wk old chicks need light still??

Question, we have three 2wk old chicks and are wondering if it's okay to remove the lamp from the brooder? What do you think? We keep them inside our home which gets down to 64degrees.....
