I fed my chickens some cabbage a couple of days ago and I think that this one probably gorged herself on more than she needed. I took her to my vet today and she did not seem concerned about her. She gave me some motility drugs abd said to massage her crop and it would probably pass. I think she...
I have a chicken who I believe has wood chips in her crop. I believe she is able to eat and she is having bowel movements. Should I be concerned?
Thanks,
Brian
Well, I have better news. My chicken is doing better. We changed motility drugs and antibiotics and she is doing better. The infection in her crop was not allowing food to pass. We are force feeding her, as she sttill doesn't have an appetite, but I think she will pull through.
I was told by the vet that the crop is swollen due to infection and that this is slowing the function of the digestion and flow of the crop. I am frustrated that the antibiotics are not working faster.
I have a hen that has been to the vet, had an x-ray and is on antibiotics. I was told that she has no obstruction, but has a profound amount of bacteria in her crop. She is about a third of the way through her antibiotics, will drink water but is not interested in eating food. She is stable at...
Well, I came home and she seems to be Ok, but when I picked her up she started puking a little like she drank too much water. She has a little fight in her, but she is a little quiet and the fluid coming out of her mouth is watery and a little on the white side, but is mostly clear. No, I have...
I am not sure if there is anything wrong but I have a chicken that is on her roost that is very sleepy. I don't know if she is sick or not and I have had one or more of my birds do this before. Can anyone shed some light on this. Oh and by the way, I don't know if it is relevant but she is...
I hate to announce this, I appreciate the rush of help that I received. My bird (Fang is her name, she bites for attention) gave up the ghost about ten minutes ago. I was attempting to examine her vent and she became extremely weak and went into a death convulsion. Thank you Rainbow for your...
I just found her a little over an hour ago. She is very tired. I have not yet tried to give her anything. I am very concerned about her. If it is just an egg, would it appear to be yellow like it is infected?
I posted a message a bit ago. I thought that maybe if I changed the title it might help people looking to help. I have a hen that is about 9 months old and I found her laying on the groung outside of the coop. She will move, but she is very lethargic. When I picked her up I noticed that her butt...
I have a young hen 10 mos. who has a swollen lower abdomen and is lethargic. Can any one please tell me what may be the cause? She is usually pretty rambunctious, so it was odd to see her like this. Her lower belly seems swollen and puffy.
Thanks,
Brian
This particular bird is not being broody. I have had some experience with that with one of my other birds. Actually her and one other have been affected by this condition, although she seems to have it much worse than the other bird. I do live in a cold climate, but have noticed this skin...
I deal with mites on a regular basis in my landscaping business, so I am familiar with what they look like. I even ran a piece of Kleenex over her bell and did not see any. Do you still think that it could be mites? It doesn't seem to be affecting her health wise, but I am sure it doesn't feel...
I have a 1 year old hen that is doing fine, but her belly and chest area seem to be irratated by something and it is causing her to loose her feathers in those areas. I checked for mites, but I see none. Any information on what may be the problem would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian
