wombat and Kittymomma,
Thank you both for your replies. It has been 4 to 6 weeks for most of them since they began their molt. Most of them look great with their nice, new, full feathered look, but I guess I need to give them a little more time to recover. I feed them 20% protein layer feed...
I've got 15 hens (about 18 months old) and have not gotten an egg for a month! They were giving me about a dozen eggs a day up until a month and half or two ago and they sloooowly started slowing down. They did start molting so I thought no big deal they'll pick up again in a few weeks. That...
I don't use either, I like using crumbles. My chickens have always done great on it. I have it in a hanging feeder and the only time that I see any wasted at all is when I spill it myself.
Has anyone else seen or heard about this??? For the most part no one in the media is covering it.

It is not the Federal Governments job to perform policing inside the US. That is why we have the National...
I got up this morning and went to feed/water and check on my chickens to find one of my hens dead!
Last night (only about 12 hours earlier) when I went out to them everyone appeared to be doing well. I always spend a lot of time with them just looking and watching when I feed and gather eggs...
I just wanted to say thanks to any BYC'ers that may have ordered one of my calendars.
Out of the batch of 50 that I have, they are almost all spoken for. I only have 12 left!
If you were thinking about ordering one, you may want to do it now before they are gone as I don't know if I will be...

I still worry about it a little bit. Since when did something being unconstitutional stop the government from implementing or forcing it through anyway?
The best I have found is from Costco. It is their own store brand and is a Mesquite Barbecue dry rub. It has a ton of different seasoning and spices in it. I rub the chicken down in EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) and then sprinkle this stuff on (quite generously I might add). I cook it on the...
Besides a full time job and doing the chicken thing I also do some photography on the side.
I generally do some services and prints locally, but this year to try and branch out further and help with Christmas I have decided to put a few of my favorite photographs into a calendar. Normally...
I'm feeding my hens layer crumbles (Nutrena) that have 20% protein.
My local feed store has layer crumbles and pellets in both 16% and 20% protein and the difference in price is maybe $0.50 between the two. I think that the higher protein is better. Mine free range a little bit, but I feel...
Here is my first, (the little brown one). This was not even a week ago and we have gotten 1 a day since. (Can't wait for the rest of them to start laying too!)
I know that it is here, but I refuse to accept it! I love fall, but my garden is actually still growing and producing and I don't want summer to end just yet. I think it's a losing battle.
...that is how old my chickens are and how long it has taken, but we had success and finally got our 1st egg.
It cam from one of my Delawares. She even laid it in one of the nests!!! Its a little small when compared to a regular egg, (as you can see in the picture) but not bad for a first...
I started mine off on chick starter and then switched them over to Nutrena Meetbird Feed. They did incredible on it and were all ready for butcher at 8 weeks!
I ordered from McMurray this year and had no problems at all. I ordered 26, received 27 all of them were very healthy and and have been thriving. I think that they do a good job and I would order from them again.
Chinese Food all the way. But I mean real Chinese Food in China or a close second the Chinese Food in Canada. Americanized Chinese Food is ok sometimes, but only if is PF Chang's.
