I am toying with the idea of building a real coop with a portable run that I could run off any side of the coop. I thought about making a coop/run that I could rotate, but didn't want to give up that much permanent space of my yard. You'd just have to make a door and latch system on whatever...
Ok, we've never clipped wings before but I'm thinking I want to on the next batch to keep them from flying over the fence. My question is if I clip them to prevent fly aways, can they still get to their roost? We are re-building the entire coop and changing, so I could put the roost wherever I...
have you tried bribing them with eggs? (the neighbors...not the chickens).
my girls are mostly quiet, I only worry about the roosters I'm getting next week.
I want to have a get-together at my house over july 4th...my question is is there safe method of ridding my yard of these nasty mosquito pests? if i didn't have chickens, i'd use a yard fogger, but i'm questioning the safety of the chemicals with regards to the chickens.
any thoughts?
OK, maybe a little off topic...but, of my 4 ducks, 3 are drakes. they will be 17 weeks old this week so i'm expecting to start finding an egg or two a week soon.
my real question is obviously a ratio of 3:1 is not good, but what is ideal? I know that with chickens it is WAY better to have...
did you get these from a hatchery or hatched from your own eggs? I;m having the same problem w/ a 3 month old (just found the deformity a couple weeks ago) from mcmurray. just wondering how this pullet will fare if i leave her alone. any ideas? she seems fine except her toes curl sideays.
sending good vibes and prayers. I have had chickens that would wander off for days and were expert hiders. Several times I thought for sure they were goners, and then about the time I gave up looking, they'd come wandering home like nothing ever happened.
Try not to beat yourself up over this.
well, I just talked to my hubby and he said "not now". I see his point, right now, I have only young pullets and no prospect of getting a rooster. I guess I'll have to wait for the next smoking deal.
sorry
OK, here's my .02....I got 4 ducklings earlier this year (valentines?) for the first time. they are messy, but not as bad as I thought they'd be. they do mess their kiddie pool and it has to be dumped every other day, but we use the grass clippings from our yard for them in their pen (they share...
she's 3 months old. they were in a brooder with pine shavings until they were about 6-7 weeks, then moved into the big girls' coop. plywood flooring covered in pine shavings and on ground. I really can't figure it out. she's the only one with funny toes.
sorry about the bump...didn't know.
OK, my little chickie has developed some funky looking feet. No known injuries; nothing different for her than anyone else in her "class". She seems to get along fine, but if this is something I need to worry about, then I need to know what it is and how to deal with it.
They are always like...
I know this sounds silly...but can you get a cat? I never have mice inside or out with my 2 cats. The only thing is, with mine anyway, if they can't find mice -- they'll hunt birds.
while I personally don't understand the coon thing, I certainly understand losing an animal you love.
no matter what anyone says, you need the grieving time and please make sure you take the time you need to have that process.
hang in there and take your time.
