All of my Cuckoo Marans x EE chicks hatched out black with a little white (just like Cuckoo Marans) BUT they all had pea combs and all but one had beards.

    The Olive-Egger thread!

Yes, I agree they can miss both the brown (at least dark brown) and the blue or green gene the one pullet with a straight comb lays light brown eggs. Totally confused me at first! F1 OE + F1 OE should have 3/4 chance of being OE?? with 1/4 having 2 blue or green genes?? And THANK YOU for your...

    The Olive-Egger thread!

I'm trying to understand. I have one OE roo. My understanding is that he would be "F1" he is from a Cockoo Marans over an EE. Are you saying his offspring are not as likely to be OE? All but one out of 6 of the chicks hatched from his parents have been pea combed. (2 roos 4 pullets) (2nd pea...

I believe the pink one is from my new Orpington. Hummm, what if I cross my OE with my pink egg layer? I also have a Marans/ Welsummer I'm waiting for eggs from hopeing they will mix well with the OE.

    what breed

Could be a number of breeds. Is it a bantam? It looks smaller than the others. Are there feathers on it's feet or is it "clean legged" What color are it's legs? Yellow, grey, pink? Could be Old English Game. Looks like something with silver coloring but it's hard to tell from the lighting in the pic

Out of this breed list, can you identify my chicks?

I'm thinking the top one or two is your Golden Laced Wyandottes you would definitely see some golden brown.

Out of this breed list, can you identify my chicks?

x2 Not always the case but my Sussex was the sweetest most curious chick (and still is as a hen) The easter eggers may or may not have the puffy cheeks but their feet/legs should not be yellow they are often flighty chicks.

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thank you, Ladycat. That's interesting :) I'm thinking it's a roo too. None of the other 4 Marans eggs have hatched to compare it to. I think they still may if my broody will stay put long enough. I did sneak some of them under her a few days late. One of 2 olive-eggers is pipping tonight.

    Sex- linked Information

Thank you, That is interesting. Is there a name or word for breeds/colors that are not exactly sex links but can be sexed with some accuracy as chicks?? And is there somewhere I can find out how accurate it is?

Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I posted in this thread : https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/261208/sex-linked-information/920#post_13071596 but it's an old thread. I'm trying to figure out how accurate color sexing can be with Cuckoo Marans. My understanding is that they are not sex links so can anyone say how accurate you...
