California - Northern

So, yesterday I had dd read me the humidity levels. While I was nursing the baby. This morning one was at 0. How long can they survive like that. It was hopefully only some of the night...... ? Lockdown is tonight so I will candle but wondering about the damage! Feeling Sad About Having Someone Else Check For me.
Going below 25% is not good for them but you did not have them below that for long enough to matter. They should be fine.

That doesn't sound like it could be accurate. What is the humidity of the air in your house? I bet it is at least 20%. Do you have anything else you can check it with?
Humidity goes down with heat so 20% in the house would be close to 0 in the incubator. Oxygen levels go down with heat too. No wonder it is so hard to breath when it is 122 degrees---I made the mistake of going out in that heat back in 1977 when Red Bluff hit 121.9 two days in a row.....

We are on our first clutch in the incubator, currently in lockdown and can't adjust the temp like the instructions suggest, so a little worried. Added more water for adjusting humidity... if they hatch when is the best time to take them out? Thank you:)

Hi all. I am east of Chico. A small town called Westwood near lake Almanor and I am looking for some American game bantams any for sale near Chico area?

Temperature is not as much of a problem at hatch.

Wait until they are dry but not more than 24 hours. Some say you can leave them in up to 3 days but I have had them die after two days so I do not leave them in that long.

Wait until you have at least two and get them out earlier if they are pestering ones that just hatched.

It also seems that the hatched chicks "encourage" the other eggs to hatch as well so leaving them in a while might help the whole hatch.

The results of a study showed that hatching eggs hatched better when the eggs were touching--they communicate and encourage before hatching too.

I have to tell you Kim that the judges really liked the Del and went on about how they haven't seen a good one in many years. You are doing a fantastic job with them.

Walt

You have been a huge help to me with the Delaware project, Walt. Both in terms of encouragement and useful criticism. It's tough making breeding choices and I'm finding things change in unpredictable ways as birds mature.
