    Spent Brewer Grain?

My flock loves the stuff. It also makes great bread! But I feed it as a treat not as their main diet.

    Cochin Thread!!!

I just purchased two Cochin hens (8 mo)! Their main purpose is to incubate eggs. I hope to have a self sustaining flock. As I watched them check out their new diggs I noticed they couldn't fit in the nest boxes. How large do Cochin nest boxes need to be? I have a great flock of Buff Orpingtons...

Possible egg boung or internal layer

She was standing in the nest this morning with her feathers all ruffled up and was looking very tired and lethargic (like she had to take the biggest poop ever). I gave her some food and water, which she excepted. I am going to bring her into the house and give her a warm bath. She loves...

Possible egg boung or internal layer

I have a 3 yo BO hen. For two days now she has been very lethargic and on the roost fluffed up. Star did come out tonight when I let them out to free range but only for a few minutes. I went back to check on her again and she is squatting in a nest box. However she is having fine tremors. I...

    New Roo Issue

How large is your flock? Usually more that one roo in a flock is ok, but it depends on how large of a run there is and how many hens you have. I would try searching for threads about integrating roos and how people keep the peace between them. Good luck!

Neighbors 3 banty roo's in my yard.

They are some pretty Roos, but it sounds like they have a bounty on their heads. If they are friendly I would try and save them.

    Lost two great hens today

I lost two Bared Rock hens due to a hawk I have never lost hens to dogs or predators before. After my girls came in from free ranging yesterday I noticed my BR's were not in the coup so I left the door to their run open in case they wandered home late. When I went to check this morning all my...

What happened to my poor head roo?

It looks like something grabbed the feathers and ripped them out. I would consider putting something on it so the hens don't pick at him.
