How early are you all able to determine gender? And how? I am assuming that males have combs that turn red faster?

THis is my third time incubating but this time I don't have an auto egg turner. I have 15 eggs in an LG styrofoam bator witha fan. I am super annoyed by the fact that when I turn the eggs, they frequently roll to what might be the same spot. I am worried they will end up spending too much time...

I have a question silkie people.... How loud are your rooster silkies? Do you feel they are quieter than other roosters or does it just depend on the individual?
