Thanks greyfields, I had NO idea how involved the breeding is, all so interesting. So as far as feed goes, a slow cornish takes about 4 weeks longer to grow so is the feed about the same or would you come out ahead $$ wise on a fast cornish.
Yes, I ordered the slow cornish off of the meat birds catagory. I wonder if I should have just ordered fast cornish? I guess slow cornish isn't supposed to have the health issues of a fast . Well, it is fun trying new things.
thanks
They are just little yellow fluff balls. I ordered them from Privett Hatchery advertised as slow cornish.
So are cornish a good tasting bird? will they dress out at the large weight as a cornish x just take longer to reach that weight?
Your absolutely right. I think I will attempt to build one myself and if it turns bad I'll take advantage of the fact that my DH actually gave me the go ahead to order one. I was shocked, he never wants to spend money, but then again he really hates do it yourself projects.

My hens are 20 weeks and just started laying. The eggs a teeny tiny. I think I have at least 3 hens laying because I get green, brown, and very light brown eggs. All but one hen should lay green. So Im a little curious about the 2 shades of brown since only one hen should lay brown, I wonder...
I have two roosters who are each about 20 weeks. 3 weeks ago they started going after my poor hens. They are just now getting the "hang of it" However they are also testing out coming after me and the kids. So far just charging and a little peck. I started carry a broom with me to swat at...
My nest boxes are 12x12. I thought there was no way my hens would fit. But they do. However I need to add a perch in front of them so they can manuver themselves around better. If I have to make more nest boxes I would make them 14x14.
