Ideal no longer carries dyed easter ducks and chicks :(

By 2003 I was hatching things. But I'd had birds for a while before that. You could be right, it could be 9 years. 2001 to 2011 would equal 10 years. 2002 to 2011 would equal nine. If my sleep deprived brain has added right. I'm not attemping to be rude, I'm just saying it the way it is. Sorry...

Ideal no longer carries dyed easter ducks and chicks :(

Hey did you know HOW they only have DYED cockerels? Obviously it isn't injected into the egg. They sex the chicks (which are normally colored when they hatch, btw). And then they put food coloring on the cockerels. You can't tell me you haven't written on a letter in sharpie, or put a strip of...

Ideal no longer carries dyed easter ducks and chicks :(

This makes me sad. I guess they were getting a lot of flack from...people. Does anyone know of any other hatcheries that still do carry them? I recall a hatchery in Alaska, and Stromberg's at one point drop shipped them from somewhere, too, but that was it. Anyone know of any?

Do you ever get used to the flapping of the wings?

No. You don't. I had a horrific experience with that last week. The only thing you can do is change how you react: close your eyes and don't watch. LOL:rolleyes:

    I feel sort of guilty?

I processed a turkey in september, but it was more of a mercy killing because the tom had twisted leg and wasnt able to get around and was hurting. I had my brother dispatch the turkey witha shot from a .22. And that was that. All I had to do was scald, pluck, gut, crop carve and finish him. I...

    CRIPPLED TURKEY! Help!

Well it's done. I carried him out into the field next to the pen--he fought me pretty good but he couldnt run or walk aways from me hardly. We debated for a second whether to do it or let him be. But then he tried to walk, and fell over. I looked at the leg. I'd let it go on too long already...

    CRIPPLED TURKEY! Help!

I have three turkeys I got in May. Two toms and a hen. I haven't exactly had them on "fast track to fat" plan: more like finisher, scratch and corn mixed together. They keep putting on weight. Theyre now easily..Without weighing them, somewhere in the upper 20's. And we have a HUGE...

If a chicken had an EXTRA toe?!?

Quote: Thank you! To my shock and complete and utter suprise I somehow managed to win senior small stock round robin. Someone else won supreme overall, but Im still happy with small stock! Im so amazed I won! The fair is over now, and now Im sitting waiting for one of my college classes to...

If a chicken had an EXTRA toe?!?

Quote: Congrats! Showmanship birds are not normally held to the same standards as exhibition birds, but the judges usually want you to know what is wrong with your bird--how it does not match the standard. Shawmanship is mostly about the showman: how he or she handles their bird, their...

If a chicken had an EXTRA toe?!?

Yep, we have an APA sanctioned Judge. It was a good show. My last 4-H county fair with showmanship (because I'm aging out)...Was today. Won Grand Champion Senior Showman! @Sonoran: I used the six toed cockerel as my showmanship birdie, he was a doll, and we won! Im sooooo amazed and thankful and...

If a chicken had an EXTRA toe?!?

Snowbird, I am..But the toes and eyes still confuse me even after seven years. Okay, so if a bird was missing an eye (no, I WOULDNT show a chicken with just one eye), would it be a defect or a dq? Me thinks since eyes are a part of the point scale, that it would be a defect, @Sonoran--Thank you...

If a chicken had an EXTRA toe?!?

Would it be a DQ or a defect if a chicken had an extra toe on one foot? I know if a bird is missing a toe, half a point is deducted, right? Unless they're a silkie, houdan, faverolle, dorking or sultan. In which case they'd just be disqualified. But if say, any other breed of chicken HAD AN...

Newbie clipped her goat! HOW BAD IS IT?!

I've had a Nigerian Dwarf Goat for a year. Last year, I showed in open goat at the county fair, and three weeks before the fair had a friend who's been showing goats for a few years come out and help me clip her. This year, I'M ENROLLED IN GOAT PROJECT IN 4-H, and we were supposed to have a...
