    Just how useful is a rooster anyway?

    I agree, I have no use for a rooster. Fertile eggs are not any better than non fertile and a rooster is just a noisy eater that rapes my hens. :idunno

  17. We feed them with a gravity fed hog feeder. I wired up the trough lids so the hens have acccess to the food all the time. Hogs would just use their nose to open the lid, (of course the hens can't do that) this way I can dump a whole sack of food in the hopper and they are good for about 3 weeks. We have 2 barred rocks, 1 sexlink, 1 RIR, 1 big black hen (not sure what she is) and 2 aracaunas in this pen. We have another pen with a white leghorn and another sexlink. No one likes them so for their safety I need to keep them seperated.

  18. This is a picture of the house from the inside of the pen. We recently remade the pen and moved the house. It got a new corigated vinyl room, and a coat of paint. The girls now have a yard about 25' square. Happy girls!

  19. We cut doors in the back of the nesting area to access eggs without having to go inside the pen. The house is 6x4, we lifted it off the ground about 18 inches to make it easier to rake out from the inside. The house was orginally made as a hog house, we recycled it when we relpaced hogs with clucks.
