    Chicken coop and garden combo?

My coop and run are at one shady end of my fenced in garden. I find that my 9 girlys like to get out in the afternoon, and it seems they stick to the fence edges. They dont like it for the 3 or so weeks that they have to wait for the plants to establish. I will say they LOVE new corn, so next...

How do you make sure to rotate your eggs?

I am just curious how other people store and rotate their eggs. Do you have special places in the fridge? Do you have boxes marked with date? By day, week, month? Please share how you make sure to use the oldest first!

I have the same thing going on with my girls. I have that roost on the outside roosts and that curl up together next to the outside of the coop. I am really starting to think its due to the weather..its in the high 50's at night..

My chickens arent sleeping in the house????

The run is covered so I dont worry about them outside. The house is well ventilated and last night it didnt feel that warm in the coop....so should I wait and see if someone takes over his job or start finding a way to heard them in? There is no door on the coop so I cant lock them in for the night.

My chickens arent sleeping in the house????

I had to get rid of my Roo last week because they aren't legal where I am ...Suddenly tonight I noticed that my girls aren't sleeping in the coop tonight. Its dark and they are all hanging outside either on the ground or on the outside roosts....Is this normal? I just wondered if its because its...

Rocky, my rooster, torn up by huge dog!

I am so sorry this happened. I'm not sure where you live but there may be laws on the books that allow you to protect your "livestock". I know that I can here...I would find out and let the neighbor know if there is such a law. Here I can shoot a dog such as this...even if its only with a pellet...

How to keep chicken poop from smelling so bad

I use landscape bark. The medium size that is not treated with anything. Its probably about 2-3 inches deep. It smells wonderful and I never smell chicken. It also works as a filter, spray it down once a week or if it rains that works too and everything filters down to the bottom. Or when the...

No Chicky's left in the house :(

Back in Feb I had 3 hens in the garage and 6 babies in the house with 2 incubators going. Then in March I had 3 hens in the garage, 6 older babies in the house and 8 fuzzy's in the house. All the babies are now in the garage with the hens ( in different pens of course) and the hens should be...

    Washingtonians

Quote: So sorry you have to go through this and do the HORRIBLE wait! The best and hardest thing you can do is just try to ignore it, forget about it, and just plain be in denial if you want. What you need to remember is as of right no one KNOWS anything for sure. What you do know is your baby...

Do all EE's have green legs? pics added

I had 3 dark green eggs that I incubated. Only 1 hatched and it is white with yellow legs. So I think EE's can have other color legs than green. Since I watched this one hatch..lol

My Chickens got their green cards!( They are legal now!)

Hey all, I am so happy that the Spokane Valley has gotten a clue and now we can have our chickens. (well legally anyway) This ordinance has always been on the honor system here (not enough man power, money and resources to enforce it) and unless someone turns you in they have no clue you have...

My Chickens got their green cards!( They are legal now!)

I live in the Spokane Valley in Washington State. Last night the city council decided that we have have our backyard chickens! 1 hen per 2000 sq ft, no roosters, chicken housing must be 25 ft from neighboring property, and chickens need to be housed in a manner that they can not escape their...

    Mean Baby Chick

I just had to move my biggest one week old out of the small brooder box into the box with the 4 week olds. Everyone is much happier now. I think some just get too big for their britches. Lucky for her my 4 week olds are really docile and just looked at her like "ok a new one!" I havent had good...
