(only seramas) sneezing, and rattly but no discharge?

Looking for help, advice with my 4 seramas who began sneezing a few weeks ago. I didn't think much of it, because they are all acting normal, otherwise. The sneezing is quite frequent, and only today did I bother to snag one up and you can definitely feel a rattle in her lungs, but there is...

    Black shoulder charcoal peahens

I have two 2013 females I'm looking to sell, and wondered a reasonable price for these as I don't have the money to invest in a male. Any help is appreciated.

Can I save an egg that is cracked!?

I have eggs that will hatch in one week, and noticed one got cracked on the bottom, but is still moving when I candle it....can I save it? Maybe put some tape over it or something? I'm sure it's been asked before and I'll do a search, but need a quick answer!

Can I throw this in the composter.....what will happen?

I cleaned out the straw/poo/sand from my chicken coop finally, and had it in a bin to till into the garden. Well, laziness got the best of me, and now the garden is planted, and the bin has been rained in, resulting in a stinky messy....mess. As I said, it is just mainly straw, with ample...

I haven't seen this color silkie before....what is it?

This color is soooo much prettier than I can have show up in these pics....a pale grey undercoat, with blond tips throughout. I hope it's a hen, because if it's a rooster, it'll have to go to the country.

Silkie with swollen crop (very squishy....not hard)....what do I do?

I noticed it last night, and while I think she's broody, now maybe she's just uncomfortable.....I checked in the am to see if it was down, and it's not. It is large and feels very liquidy and I can actually get some to come back up, and what comes up looks like very watered down pellet...

My (limited) hatching experience...and why I'm okay 'helping out'.

I've only had 4 batches of eggs hatch. The first were 3 under a broody, all broke through the air sac, and only 2 hatched. I couldn't understand why the 3rd didn't make it. Then, with 24 in an incubator, only 4 survived hatching, many pipped but didnt make it out. I chalked this up to the temps...

Drowned chick, now zombie chick...think we're past the emergency part?

Yesterday while doing yardwork, I realized our one lonely 4 week old silkie chick was missing...started looking, when my husband found it in a bin of water (that I meant to empty about 10 different times!). He yelled to me that it was dead, a soaking freezing floppy noodle. I took it in the...

    Take chicks from mama?

2 chicks hatched today...I thought I'd take them from her to put in a brooder, so they'd get used to being handled by people, but is there any real benefit, or should I just rig up something so she can raise them in the coop? The logistics of that seem a little harder (for me) but easier on...

How long after they pip through air sac to hatch?

It was pipped through by 7am, and I don't hear anything or see any movement...how long before it's a lost cause, and is it ever EVER worthwhile to intervene?

First hatch ever under broody silkie!

First hatch of 3 eggs....second is pipped and third is through the air sac, but I'm not sure about it now....not moving or peeping....but here's the first little baby! So exciting! Especially since my 2 year old got to watch! <a...

First time broody silkie....remove non-fertile eggs?

She's been sitting for 10 days on 6 eggs. 3 seem to be progressing well, and 3 are obviously duds....should I remove those 3 or just let it go? I assume they should be removed so they don't explode.

Got my first eggs! What colors could I see if they hatch? Silkies.

Mom is blue....and if fertile, this would be the papa. He's also my avatar. These are her first eggs, and I know it's not likely she'll sit on them....but is it true they usually lay a clutch and THEN sit or would she begin sitting now? There are 3 in there (possibly 4 as of this am). I want...

    My first egg!!!

Our silkies were born at the end of March, and yesterday I noticed one in the nest box in the AM. Told my husband that I think we may get eggs soon, though I thought that was just wishful thinking....but this am...a perfect egg! Now, a few questions....it's not being sat on currently....we have...

Putting plants in coop for winter....

I was thinking of putting some outdoor plants that have a slim shot of lasting through winter outdoors in my chicken coop....not in with the chickens themselves but the storage area....I thought the few extra degrees will ensure their survival....but might they create too much humidity with...

    My city coop!

We got chickens in March, and began this project when the weather broke. The outside run, though they free range nearly all the time. Another view from outside. Inside...hopefully the scenery will inspire them to lay all year long Apple tree. Shelf in the coop....shoulda made it a...

Any guess on these silkie colors and sexes? 3.5 mos

Blue...m/f? Definitely a rooster and the only I'm sure of the sex....but color? Mainly buff, with silver 'undercoat' and tips of wings, tail. Another....nearly the same color, but the buff and silver are both lighter, and head feathers seem to be coming in silver. Biggest mystery, colorwise...

Anyone going to the Buffalo Garden Walk at the end of this month?

My garden is on it! Excited to show off our garden/coop/chickens! One of the biggest garden walks in the country! It'd be pretty neat if anyone here was going, and stopped by!

    Chicks/toddlers/dogs 2.5 months

Our 10 silkies are 2.5 months now, one rooster left for an alpaca farm so down to 9. Life has never been more interesting on our little city farm. I want to post individual pics soon, to get some guesses on color and sex, but here's a couple for fun! The pic on the couch is everyone's hands down...

    Seagulls?

Noticed some eyeing up the yard stranglely the other day, flying low, then away...Do I have to worry about them getting my 2.5 mo chicks, or were they just eyeing up something else in the yard?
