Dropped off a crate of roosters for processing. Just picked up the bagged and vacuum sealed whole birds and noticed that the necks were not removed. Is this a common practice? Never sent birds for processing before.

What are you talking about? Ideal certainly does offer refunds if warrented. I've never had to ask for a refund since my orders from Ideal have always arrived satisfactorily. My next order is going to them this week.
Not sure if postal regulations and procedures have changed, but back...

Do not listen to the seller. It may be "human-friendly" but it is not chicken friendly for more than two or three birds as mentioned. It may hold 8 chickens but it will not provide adequate living space.
At least here in Maine, putting 8 birds in that tiny space would be cruel. If...
I use the plastic 3 gallon heated waterer from Farm Innovations. First the positives: it is cheap enough, works well in the Maine winter, uses little electricity and holds enough water for my few birds that I only have to refill it every 4 or five days.
The design, however, can only be rated...
I have that same plastic waterer from Farm Innovations in the photo above. It works well far below 0 degrees. Keep it out of drafts.I don't remember it freezing when temps were down in the 20's F below outside the coop.
I'll confirm that TcherDawn is correct that it is hard to flip upright...
Not mine, but if this winter is like past ones, there will be some reported here soon. This is just a reminder to take a look at your coop or run now, before the heavy, wet snow settles on the roof and starts the slow, crushing trip to the ground.
Lot's of people build light-weight structures...
If heat is not necessary here in the hills of Western Maine, it is not necessary in Eugene Oregon and certainly never necessary in Louisiana for adult birds.

Your thread might more properly be titled "Fires caused by improperly installed lights in coop."
I use a 40 watt CFL in my small coop (to lengthen their day) in a fixture hung securely from the rafters. It can not fall into bedding and even raising or lowering it requires hand tools.
I've...

I just called the Merrimack store to let them know I was coming and the gentleman I spoke with was surprised that there even was a swap scheduled for tomorrow. He thought the last one was it for the year. He didn't seem interested in any pre-registration and just said "c'mon down."...
I know that my practices are well within legal bounds, accepted agricultural practices and in the realm of ethical treatment. Unfortunately that doesn't stop certain "rescuers" with different ideas of what is acceptable and possessing a false sense of righteousness. There are some that can not...
Dog rescues? I hadn't thought about it before but I don't want to have to have to defend my bunnies from the rabbit rescue folks that are stealing rabbits from breeders around the country.
If I got on the radar of some of those characters, I'd have to arm myself and get all unpleasant should...
Had a nice day out with the bunnies, enjoyed the sunshine and the visits. Selling a few of the rabbits would have been icing on the cake, but that was not to be today.
Actually, the icing on the cake was being able to just drive in to the TSC lot and set up without any drama.
I'm glad I live...

Last winter there were a few threads here about runs collapsing under the weight of snow and ice. Best advice is don't even thing about it unless you provide the same supporting structure below that you would for a permanent roof. Once it ices over, it's doomed.

the link for what your looking for is on the last maine swap thread we have just started it OK
Thanks.
"...the last maine swap thread ?" I see the Oxford/Augusta Maine thread and in the 1st message, it mentions the Maine law. I knew that. I live here and sell rabbits here.
The...
Suggestion: Edit the subject line to add "NH" so those of us in New England that might be interested will bother to click on it. It was just by chance that I clicked on it.

Question and a suggestion:
Is New Hampshire laws the same as Maine as far as minimum age of 8 weeks for selling rabbits? I have some that will be about 7 weeks though (fully weaned) at the time of one of the swaps.
Also, a thread listing swap details without page after page of chit-chat would...
