I set a broody hen on April 15th and eggs began hatching this week so I have about ten new children. Went out to attend to my chickens this am and heard a commotion in the separate room where the new mama and her brood was. As I went in a black snake was speeding across the room with a bright...
This is a simple feeder I made and have been using for several years. I put other photos and details on ehow, Nothing to it.

That living life can often bring
Work with trouble, grief with pain
Repeat themselves with oft refrain

In my stuff is a wrinkled, smudged piece of note book paper with the attached poem jotted down. I kept it in my Bible so that it would never be lost, and then I moved it to Marthas Bible. I got it out recently and added it to a picture. My daughter, Joanna wrote this Christmas poem when she was...
I've had starving dogs - drop offs - remove feed barrel tops before and fill up on corn or other chicken feed. A starving/very hungry human, or dog will forget their druthers and eat whatever they can find.
If you're in the parlor only Perrier water is good enough, but if you're in the desert...
Went out this am as usual to feed & release the chickens. There were two large hounds that had apparently spent the night under and elevated part of my shop floor. One of them looked like a blood hound and told him to scram in no uncertain terms. Walking out to the tractor shed I noticed the lid...
Chicken Stuff
These are a series of chicklims (chicken limericks) I've written over the past couple of years. Thought some of you very fowl folks might get a chuckle or two - maybe a cluck.

I had a big White Rock rooster that thought he was an attack dog. My wife was afraid to collect the eggs. The next time he did it to me I kicked a pretty nice field goal with him. Didn't hurt anything except his pride I guess, his manners improved greatly after that. I worked too hard raising...
For the first few nights after moving my teenaged chicks to the hen house from their juvenile quarters I actually put them in one at a time when they all hunkered together at sundown. After that they all went in by themselves and I would close the sliding door to the outside. One evening I...
I was working under the hood of my pickup, bent over, and out of the corner of my left eye something caught my attention. Straightening up I turned my head to see our large White Rock rooster running directly for me! I blinked and then noticed that ten feet behind him was a coyote totally...
I started feeding mine pellets - switch over from crumble type grow ration- they were "off feed" for a day or so but are eating fine now. Just the change put them off. If anything gets hungry enough (kids, dogs, chickens) they will eat what's on the table.
Free ranging would be nice but Coyotes here would make short work of our fowls. It's not really practical if you have a high predator poulation, including free roaming dogs.
........that poor chicken to cross the road?
GEORGE W. BUSH
We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road or not. The chicken is either with us or it is against us. There is no middle ground here.
