I have a couple that are like that too the Vet told me it could have been from stress from the winter and that they are pulling there feathers out. Also it can be bordem from the same food and she suggested I add more protein. hope that helps.

I was thinking maybe putting my grass clippings in the run once i start cutting my grass again but thats not for at least 3 weeks. I might try sand and see what happens. I just need to get rid of the smell. we'll see! Thanks for the Tips!!
I have been using hay in my Run but after this winter I now notice a bad mell and the mud comes back pretty quickly even with a small rain storm. Is sand better? any other suggestions? Thanks

this is the neck of another chicken I do see new feathers comming in. We had a really hard winter Here in NH and finally it's getting warm again. Her bottom is not red at all.
THis is my barred rock every time she's out she scratches the grass to get to cool dirt then lays in it is this because of her bottom? You can see the small cut on her.
