One of them scared the chicken poop outta me the other day. She was outside in the run. Fell on her side and was panting with her legs outstretched. I got the hose and lightly misted them. I thought for sure she was dying of heat exhaustion.

past few days my coop has been 100-110 inside I have added ice to their water, a cat litter box with water for them and a fan. They are still panting though.

They are about 7 weeks in this picture. Any idea what breeds they are? I got them from our local TSC.

Thanks all. I ended up putting in a florescent light strip on a timer. 6am on 7:30pm off. As well as a regular light bulb for human use when cleaning in there and such. And a red 100 w heat lamp over their roost. Since the nights are a little chilly I figured they wouldnt mind the extra warmth...

What type of lights do you all use inside your coop? I am finishing up this weekend but have not yet done any lights. I am going to put the red brooder light out there for the nights right now since they are only 6 weeks or so but what do you all do for regular lights? Fluorescent? Regular bulb?

Thats so sad. I am sorry. You should look into a hatchery - maybe someplace like My Pet Chicken. I have read a lot of good reviews on here about them.

I am glad to hear she is doing better!!! My cat Maya ate stitching off a blanket and had to have surgery because it was all stuck in her throat and intestines. Cost me 800.00 to save her but she is worth it.

Roosts are usually higher than the nesting boxes to encourage them to sleep up on the roost and not in the nesting box
