    Am I a boy or a girl?

This "pullet" belongs to my brother. He's afraid it's actually a cockerel. I think he said it was a Welsummer and it's maybe 8? weeks old. What do you think?

Bald Butt, Yellow Discharge from Vent

Thanks for the reply. I went and got a closer look at her and one of the other hens and I think they have lice (based on the link you supplied, thanks). I got some poultry powder from the feed store yesterday and am planning to dust them today. Thanks for your help.

Bald Butt, Yellow Discharge from Vent

I adopted three hens from some neighbors that moved about a month ago. We noticed shortly after we got them that one hen had no butt feathers. This could have happened after we got her, or she could have come like this. Today, I noticed that she has a sort of yellowish crust near her vent...

    Table Scraps

Three hens to two toddlers. I'd say maybe a cup or two of table scraps per meal. We eat vegetarian but there's a fair amount of non-veggie foods in our diets. We don't often eat out-of-the-box types of foods.

    Table Scraps

Hi all, We've got two toddlers in our home so table scraps are plentiful. My question is, is it bad to feed the hens a lot of table scraps? It would be nice if they didn't eat their feed so quickly because we've got a lot of other waste food they could eat. When I first got the hens, I fed...

    Missing Butt Feathers

Hi All, I recently adopted three hens from a neighbor who wasn't able to take them with her in a move. The queen of the roost has two huge bald patches on her butt (feathers beneath her tail). I think she's a Brahma. Could this be caused by stress in moving homes? I doubt it's bullying...

    Just Adopted

Hey All! I just adopted these hens from my neighbors who moved. It's my first time owning chickens and I love it! I never asked her what breed these were, but here's what I think from some googling: black one is a cochin, white one is a brahma, and I have no idea what the red one would be...
