    HOOSIERS Only - INDIANA - Ru1?

Martinsville Indiana, 140ish chickens of various breeds. When it dries out a bit and I can find some dry firewood there will be about 40% less chickens and less room in my deep freeze

My ladies are eating my plants!!

An electric fence is about all you can do. It would be unsightly if it is say your back porch. It will only deter them until they figure out a way around it or better food elsewhere.

Moving broody to a completely new nest? Is it possible?

I would say a coon or a skunk is what did it. If you live in a more populated area it is a coon. There is not much else that will bother her eggs unless it is a dog, but dogs must learn to eat eggs most are not smart enough to try them. What you should do is blow out a few eggs and fill them...

will my spoiled chicken be mean to a new chicken?

Mean, most likely until they get acquainted to each other. I doubt it will result in death, more than likely just some missing feathers for a few months. There is safety in numbers though, Add a half a dozen or so and she will be the timid one.

How many of you use hay for your coops?

Straw I think is what you mean. I do not use it as it rots and molds when it gets wet. I use wood chips and sawdust. For larger animals straw is better because of the lower cost and how often you have to change their bedding.
