    Seeking day old Aussie Spotted

In the past I purchased Aussie Spotted from holdereads. I understand they have cut back and are no longer selling that breed. Does anyone know of a farm that sells the Aussie Spotted? Thanks.

    Purchasing unsexed ducks

I bought Aussie Spotts a couple years ago from Holderreads. They are a great all round duck to raise. I was thinking about raising them again in a new location . My question is this: last time I ordered I received far more drakes than hens...is that typical ? They are sold unsexed so you don't...

    First time hatching duck eggs.

Judy: How are things going? Any ducklings yet?? I have a unique (I guess) situation. I have two hens sharing the same nest! They are both sitting/sharing one next with seven eggs. They have both stopped laying. I put water and food up inside the house during the day so they don't have to go...

    First time hatching duck eggs.

Judy; That's pretty neat. Sounds like everything is going to plan with yours! Not sure about mine now. She was laying and staying on the nest until I pushed her off to get the eggs. Now she is laying and then getting off the nest. So I guess she never really was "broody" as she was still...

    First time hatching duck eggs.

Judy: So she is sittting on a few now. Here is my next question......and maybe a dumb question.........Does she need to still be accesible to the drake so she can mate while she is still laying her clutch? Not sure if each egg is fertilized independently. Such detailed questions! How is your hen...

    First time hatching duck eggs.

Thanks Judy: Your comments are a big help. The hen is sitting each day until I take the eggs up. Are/did you check your eggs to see if they are fertile? Or do we just assume and take chances. I have seen her mating with the drake from time to time so that's a good thing. OK, I will wait a...

    First time hatching duck eggs.

Jdywntr: Thanks SO MUCH for the helpful reply. I live in North Central MD. She has not laid a full clutch yet but she will continue to set on 2-3 that she lays. I take them up each day right now but she is acting like she would continue to set on them if I let her go. Once she starts...

    First time hatching duck eggs.

Mum: I'm looking forward to the replies too.................wonder why I haven't gotten any?? Is it because I am a "new egg" or are my questions answered in another thread. I guess time will tell.

    First time hatching duck eggs.

I bought some Australian Spotted ducks from Holderreads last spring. I wanted to try to hatch some eggs this spring with a broody hen. I read Holderreads book on raising ducks and have read several threads here, however, I just can't quite get me arms around the process. Here is what I am...

Australian Spotted Drakes Free to a good home!

I have 8 total Australian Spotted ducks. 4 drakes and 4 hens. They are about 18 weeks old. Not a good situation. I am looking to give away 3 drakes and 1 duck free to a good home. Egg Laying Basic Questions

I have 10 Australian Spotted ducks that are about 2 mos. old. I have some VERY basic egg laying questions: 1. Am I correct they should be laying eggs at about 4 mos. give or take? 2. Do the layers need different food from the drakes? 3. In order to eat the eggs, they need to be collected daily...

    Night Light?

I have 10 Australian Spotted ducks that are now 6 weeks old and living in thier house outside. I leave a light on at night since they haven't been without one thus far, and they seem a little afraid of the dark. Should I just remove the light and they'll get used to it? Thanks!

Putting ducks in coop for first time.

OK, that's about what I thought. Thanks for your help. I built/am building a coop house. It's pretty tight and is up off the ground. I was going to put wood shavings and then straw on top of that. They also have ventelation in the coop as well.

Putting ducks in coop for first time.

I have 10 australian spotted ducks that are 3 weeks old. I have a coop about ready for them. Currently I still have a heat lamp for them in the brooder. Do I need to put that in the coop? It's only getting down to about 75 degrees at night. They are currently just starting to show feathers. The...
