My chickens eat the heck out of Lily of the Valley leaves. The plant barely gets 3 inches high and the leaves are gobbled up. No ill effects, thankfully.
As a long overdue update: Tubby recovered very well. He's still the awesome provider and protector he's always been! Although, he did wind up blind in his left eye, that doesn't hold him back from being all the rooster he can be . He also, since the attack, now has white clumps on his comb...
Glad to hear her beak is now corrected! I didn't know anything about cross beaks with my first girl. Her's is severely crossed but, at a year and a half old, she does great ~ rules the roost! I may soon be granted the adoption of a mildly cross beaked two month old. I had been wondering too...
Thanks Eggcessive, appreciate your suggestions :) Yes, he's already had his vitamin water and antibiotic water since Wednesday. His nose is clear. I read so much about people feeding their chickens scrambled eggs, but I can't get mine to eat them for nothing - they'll only eat the raw eggs...
I'm so glad to read that Ginger recovered well. And I'm glad to come across this post.
I was concerned that my rooster hasn't really eaten anything in almost 3 days. He does drink pretty good. His eye was injured in a predator attack. He has maintained energy and is most happy when I take...
Well, I'm glad to read that! I have a nine month old Ameraucana whom I don't believe has ever laid an egg - all her sisters have though. Had been wondering if that was possible.
At almost two weeks old I have a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte who had that exact problem, not from hatch but at almost 2 weeks! I was assuming she might have been run over by the more active chicks and hurt her leg. After trying several things I finally went with the Vet Wrap which was the easiest...
I'd like to know too, if the chick in the cardboard tube is able to put any weight on its legs or should it be fully suspended?
My chick is a week old and I noticed two days ago that her leg is laying out back of its body - not splayed to the side. I'm wondering if she might have been trampled...
I'd say pullet. If I recall correctly, the Barred Rock girls have the black/dark coloring down the front of their legs whereas the boys legs are pretty much yellow.
LOVE Meyer Hatchery!!
Beautiful - healthy birds, fantastic organic feed available, superior customer service, there's everything you could ever need at the store and the manager rocks the house!
Backyarder on 3 acres - first time chick mama! 5 six week old Golden Buff; 3 each, week old RIR, Welsummer, Silver Laced Wyandotte, and Golden Laced Wyandotte. Will obviously be selling eggs, so will that then be considered "farmer"? Don't think so - I imagine a larger inventory for "farmer".
