My chickens have been laying under their coop in secret, and it looks like they have been doing it for a while now. Is there any way I can get them to lay in their nesting boxes???
Help please!
They have a light ( the same heat lamp they had when they were chicks) and I am positive there wasn't an intruder ( when the initial incident happened a girl started flapping around opened a lift up door, so the entire coop freaked out)
Hey guys,
My chickens have been living in their coop for a few weeks now without a hitch. But two nights ago they freaked out and started flapping around in their coop. They now seem scared of the idea of their coop and resist going to bed in it. When I try to put them in, they flap around and...
I have brought my chicks on little outings ( Front and back yard) and they are getting their feathers in ( I am so proud of them!!) but when do they live in their coop full time?
They are about three weeks old now ( a week old when we got them) and so grown up!
Thanks
I just got my new red sussex chicks settled!
Oh boy I am now all shaky
But my "red"Sussex chicks are yellow not the reddish brown I thought they would be, Is there any way to tell what color they will be? are they actually red Sussex or will they turn out to be light Sussex???
( I don't mind...
Second Question ( I have lots) It is going to get hot this summer ( last summer was around 30 - 40C or 86 - 104F ) should I remove the heat lamp if it gets that hot? Is there something I could do to keep my chicks cool?

I got a coop mostly made for free on used Victoria ( kinda like Ebay only small scale) and my run has a good solid frame ( My Grandpa and Dad helped me) and all it needs is some chicken wire!
When I say wire cloth I do mean hardware cloth.
Any advice on how to keep coons out of my coop...
My brooder is a large wire dog kennel ( a Great Dane would be quite happy in it) I am planning on wrapping wire cloth around it so the chicks won't fall out!
Thank you for the refrance books, I will check my local library asap!
