8 Hens, 1-2 eggs a day - ok not good. I was told at my feed store, you could measure between the breasts of the hen, 3 fingers wide means that hen is laying, smaller means those hen's are likely NOT laying.
I've had this bunch of hens 2 years plus couple months. They are well fed...
Doing some landscapeing, and I have been letting my chickens have the run of the yard, daily. Now its time to plant beautiful shrubs and such. I found out they will quickly devour decorative grasses. Very funny. Anyone have luck with plants they seem to ignore? or dislike?
Thanks!

super newbie here- one of my hens seems larger than the others. Astroplorp, her legs seem to be thicker we got all 10 chicks at the same time.
I'm sure its possible 1 out of 10 is a rooster, I Just can't be sure.
Ideas?
Thanks in advance
when you are ready to buy feed, I just found out puriena sells a Omega 3 rich feed. I plan on useing it, was hopeing to hear if anyone else uses it.
I don't know where to purchase oyster shells. What age do you give them the Oyster shells?
Congrats on first egg!

thanks for the BO timeline. My girls are only 4 weeks old. So I have a long wait. They are outside with a heat lamp. its 50'ish degrees, they have lots of feathers although I would not say they are fully feathered. Hope its not to cold for them.

Ok, my little girls don't care at all for the BOSS>
I did find out that PUrina makes an Omega 3 rich feed. They can be put on at 18 weeks.
Thank Goodness!
Anyone use that feed? notice any improvement in yoke color etc? The brouchure was pretty impressive.
Thanks again,
Tea
Thanks for the suggestions. Can't help but ask, breed and age are both factors in laying age? Thats good to know. I have a variety of breeds.
I'll ask around for the fish meal free choice.

Trying to avoid corn because of anti-inflametory reasons. Anything besides corn to throw for scratch? and what is good supplemental feeding to increase omega 3 in eggs?
