I have a broody hen that I could not cure. I tried every trick. finally after 3 weeks I was afraid she was going to die. wouldn't stad up. wouldn't eat. just laid there day and night.
so I gave in and got her some chicks. they were the last of the season, half price and not new babies. they...
I would separate her from the other hens and take out all the eggs and buy some new babies and sneak then under her at night. in the morning she will just think her eggs hatched
I have moved setting hens problems whatsoever, and I have moved hens with babies. if they are fussy just do it anyway. you are bigger than she is!! mine have always taken to the new nest with eggs or babies. only problem I have is the whole flock stops laying when one is neting
paper towels wokr well. pine shavings too. but this year i let 2 hens hatch some and once they hatched the hens prefered straw for the baby nest. they had a choice of dirt, new straw, pine shavings and old thoroughly scratched and pecked straw. they consistantly choose the new straw. they...
i've found that my chickens get tamer and friendlier once they start laying eggs. they will come up to me and squat down. whenever they do this they seem to enjoy being held and carried around. the younger chickens don't do it. if you really want to pick them up it's pretty easy to do when they...
well i opened the eggs and they were definately fertile. they looked like they had only developed a few days though. no recognizable parts. so i guess they let them get cold early on. maybe they will do better next time.
i have the same situation, but the babies are only a month old. they'e been in a chicken wire cage inside the big pen for 2 weeks. they look the same size as the adults but they are too young to put in with them yet. i'm wondering if we switched them and put the babies in the outer pen if it...
we have a large pen 12 feet tall with quail, and were wanting some birds that would like the upper area,so we bought a 1year old pair of lovely rollers. they were a romantic pair, with lots of cooing and cuddling. we put the box they were in sideways on a platform until we could make a proper...
we bought a "gold sex link" chick. but it looks like an araucana to me. anyone know what it is. or what mix it might be?
here she is as a baby
this is how she looks at about 4 months
look at the puffy cheeks.
thanks Bill. thats helpful. we have themin a tall box with a heat lamp. in the house. it seems pretty hot in that room. i dont know when we will put them outside. i think the adult quail would peck them.
thanks. we did crush up the food and they are pecking at it. we took out 4 chicks, then when we checked again we found some more eggs hatched but no chicks to be found. i wonder if the remaining eggs would hatch under the heat lamp with the 4 chicks. the hens obviously cant be trusted.
