    well i opened the eggs and they were definately fertile. they looked like they had only developed a few days though. no recognizable parts. so i guess they let them get cold early on. maybe they will do better next time.

    thanks Bill. thats helpful. we have themin a tall box with a heat lamp. in the house. it seems pretty hot in that room. i dont know when we will put them outside. i think the adult quail would peck them.

    thanks. we did crush up the food and they are pecking at it. we took out 4 chicks, then when we checked again we found some more eggs hatched but no chicks to be found. i wonder if the remaining eggs would hatch under the heat lamp with the 4 chicks. the hens obviously cant be trusted.
