Sorry to hear that her feet/legs are still swollen, however Happy to hear that she is well otherwise. Thank you for your speedy update! If I have any luck figuring this one out I'll report back, but if it turns out she just has swollen legs then so be it.
I see this thread was started 4 weeks ago. Just want to know how your girl is now and if you ever found out what it was. I have a 5 yr old hen and just noticed swelling in her legs as well looks the same as your girl. I'm going to start with a foot soak as well and antibiotic injections. Hope...
Is her crop extremely swollen or very squishy feeling?
Any discharge from her vent?
Is her abdomen swollen?
How are her stools? Solid/Liquid? Color?
Is she still eating/drinking?
What color is her comb? Pale/normal/dark red/purple
Need a little more information before can offer any advice.
Update: after reading the article on impacted crops/slow crops and following most the advice on there, finally decided to try the crop bra. I managed to create one out of a paper surgical mask, the ones that tie in the back. This seems to be working well for my girl. Also did some renovation in...
Went searching on other threads and found a great link on one that may help others posting here in Hopes to help others. Fingers crossed I can get my girl back on track with the treatments in this attached article.
Hope this link setup works...
Is she still bleeding? If so I would cleane the area with warm water and antibacterial soap and dry area good. If it needs it apply a gauze pad and a bandage. Then keep her in a warm quite area.
I got into chickens with a hen I rescued from a trap. Her leg had been caught right near the joint...
Well though no one was able to help me with my issue, things did work out. The Rooster is doing well still has a slight limp but so much better. In hopes it may help someone else here's what I did. I started off with treating for leg mites and soaked his legs in warm water with epson salt and...
First how are things going? Is she holding her leg out in front of her? I had a Silkie Rooster doing this and treated by sprinkling Tumeric powder on his food a little everyday. Tumeric is a natural antiimfamitory. Hope your hen gets better soon.
Did any of your girls have a swollen squishy crop? I'm having problems with my girls getting sick as well. My girls almost seem to have sore crop, so far one had died, one is better and the third is still in my chicken hospital as I call it. Just wondering if you had the same symptoms with the...
What about his crop... Is it swollen and squishy? Any other symptom you can think of that he's doing? Racking my brain trying to think.... I know you frustration as I myself have a sick hen. Good Luck with your Roo.
Is he still bleeding? If you can post a picture may help others be able to offer better advice. I would say to keep him in a quite stress free area. Depending on how bad the injury is but he could pull through. Wishing you the best for your Roo. With more info or pics you should be able to get a...
I have a 4 year old Australorp hen that started off with a swollen crop. Out of desperation I did vomit her as I had a loss of a hen last month due to the same symptoms. However now her crop is not really swollen but the little bit that's in there is squishy and when I pick her up or she puts...
