I thought really hard about doing that.... then my DH told me to just buy a good one..... I found a deal on a brinsea ovation 56 ex....wow! What a difference!
I had trouble getting the humidity to stabilize anywhere besides 50%, 65%+ or what the bator was reading a's 25% (actually much lower once I got a decent hygrometer ) I have read many folks get decent hatches running dry, but they live in locations that actually have humidity in the air. One of...
I adjust mine till the extra thermometers are in range sometimes it's 37 sometimes it's closer to 36 c. When I take out the Turner and lay the eggs on the hatching screen I seem to have to turn it down to around 35 c. I rely heavily on the extra thermometers
Mine usually reads 65%ish but the read out on the bator is not accurate. I use another hygrometer that I bought at Walmart to check the humidity. I seem to do pretty well hatching above 60%
Are you relying on the hygrometer that is part of the unit? If so my recommendation is to get an additional one and calibrate it.... mine on my unit seems to run a little low. I usually have at least 2 additional thermometer /hygrometer's that I put in to keep an eye on things..... I am still...
I always have to fiddle with mine to remember how to adjust the setting. Lol
I just finished another hatch. Incubated in my brinsea tI'll lockdown then moved to this unit for hatching because I have not taken the time to figgure out how to get the humidity high enough in the brinsea and this...
So far they have just been Barnyard Mix from my flock..... lol and I have several different breeds. I did discover that the majority of the eggs that did hatch at the lower Humidity were the Dark Brown ones from my Cuckoo Marans and Welsummers.... so that is a good thing
with "dry" incubation I seemed to have too many DIS, so this time I am trying for 40% humidity give or take. I would Imagine that living at 6000 feet above sea level would make some difference as well as the fact that here in Colorado we have a dry climate, not as dry as Arizona but still...
Due to a very staggered hatch I have ordered another Incubator that should arrive within the week and this one will be turned into a Hatcher. I seem to struggle to keep the humidity right. it runs at 25% with no water and then jumps to 50% when i add water to either channel, but it will stay...
We are on day 15 of our 4th run with this incubator. I have had excellent luck with the shelf liner over the mesh floor and a cut down egg carton over that to insure that no egg shells or goo gets into the fan/heater and components. I am loving my barnyard mix mutts they have such a variety of...
I am happy with the performance of this incubator it has held the temperature and after some adjustments the humidity stayed steady. I would say for the money I am well satisfied
Day 18 lockdown! The girls helped me get the incubator ready, we removed the turner. The bottom hatching area has quite a gap between it and the outside and after some advise I decided to lay down a shelf liner to protect my chicks from getting stuck or injured, I made sure it was a little...
