Chicks are a bit harder but adults are very obvious. Often times hatchery birds are smaller than ones that are bred to the Standard

The spitz, jersey giants, turkens and sussex are all great hardy birds! The Lakenvelders I have never owned, and I do not know anyone who does, if I remember correctly they are cold hardy, but I could see there combs as being an issue. The polish are my biggest concern, I have never had luck...
My Faverolles laid through the winter, I do have artificial light in though. The Spitz will do well, I live in North Dakota and they tolerated the winter the best out of all of the breeds
Definently LF. Often times hatchery ones can be smaller than the ones bred to the standard.

Cochins and brahmas are extremely slow growing. For males to completely mature can take up to 3 years. By one year they have usually finished growing in bone structure but have to fill out yet.
