    First Egg!

I feel the same way! 2 of mine just started laying and it’s better than Christmas! In fact, I just heard the egg song and I’m anxiously waiting a few minutes before I run out and collect the prize. Last night I went out to shut the coop and one of the layers (Dottie) was in a nest box. She acted...

    First Egg!

That's so awesome for you too! Have you eaten the eggs yet? If so, was the yolk a good color. As the first 2 are so small, I'm waiting for 2 or 3 more, so can then make a decent omelet. I never thought I'd get this egg-cited about chickens laying eggs:wee

    First Egg!

I'll be waiting to see where the next one ends up then, lol. The lip on our nesting boxes is quite high, and they haven't managed to kick too much of the shavings out (thankfully).

    First Egg!

Thank you! We'll let nature take its course - not too worried about not getting eggs during winter - just excited about our first few now. I'm hoping they'll all get the message, and start laying in the nest boxes - (fingers crossed)

    First Egg!

Thank you! I have 8 pullets all same age and I assume the same lady that laid the 1st egg on Friday, also laid the 2nd today. I have 4 available nest boxes (we covered 2) and bought and placed a fake egg in 2 of the boxes yesterday

    First Egg!

Thank you! Once they lay in the nest box are they likely to lay there every time, or not necessarily?

2nd egg! Still teeny, but cleaner than the first - was laid in one of the nesting boxes this time. :wee

    First Egg!

Thank you! Do you all wipe your eggs clean? It looks like they've been walking over this and it's a bit grubby. I read not to run them under the tap as it invites bacteria into the egg

    First Egg!

Our pullets are in their 19th week and we got our first egg today! My son spotted it almost smack bang in the middle of their outside run. It's small but I assume we can still eat it?- the shell is nice and hard. I have no idea which of them layed it - I assume it could be one of the larger...
