Sounds about right. Depending on whether you count the day they go in as day 1 or day 0 they hatch on day 18 or day 17. I use hatchabatch (an app) and it counts the day they go in as day 1 I think.
Let them see but not touch for a few hours/days (if anyone suggests a real time frame I want to know too) then let them free but watch them. Any fights/blood, they all go back to seeing but not touching a little longer. That is how I always introduce new ones.
I assisted and thought it was a failure because one of the chicks couldn't walk or hold his neck up, but I made a wheelchair type thing that hangs from the top of the incubator to solve it and, while he was escaping, he fixed it himself :yesss:! Not my original plan but I am up for anything that...
24 hours will be tonight so I'll see how they are then! I hate assisting because the chicks I assist are always too weak to survive more than a few days and I feel horrible for them :hit. Let's hope these guys pip again so that I don't have to help!
So if the 2 eggs pipped yesterday night and the babies still arent out, should I assist tonight or leave them? Every time I assist I regret it but I'm getting desperate for a friend for this little guy.
Nature walk!!!
Aww I wanted one to want to be around me for once but oh well. All of these eggs' parents are very chill and nice so I hope they are too. All 3 of the remaining eggs are alive (candles and saw movement) but idk when they will hatch. I've had some babies follow me but once they get 3-5 days old...
Ok. So I just got home and I'm not sure what he imprinted on but it is definitely not me because he wants nothing to do with me, haha. I picked up one of the eggs and tapped it and there was movement so I am hoping for another friend for him but it will be a whole night and a whole day before...
I have!! I'm not home though so it's just incubator webcam footage but only one has hatched out of 25 and only 4 developed. How do I handle a lone chick?? I cant get friends and I have to leave every day so any suggestions if no others hatch? A quail sitter (lol)?:idunno
I know friends for him...
Also, the clear top of the cage might lead her to believe that it is open so she thinks she can escape. I had this problem with my girls' skylight, so I put some bark from a dead tree over it and they are chill now. I bet you can put a towel or something over the top to prevent this, but not...
She is likely getting bullied because the space could be too small or there might not be enough hiding spots. Quail need at least 1 square foot of space for each bird, and even then I feel that it is too small (just my opinion, do as you wish) so my birds have 2+ square feet per each bird.
Add...
How tall is her cage? You might need to put padding up if she keeps flushing up or separate the bully quail. Mine flushed while I was on a trip and hit their heads so much they drew blood. It has horrible because the person watching them was scared of birds so they couldn't help:oops:. Now the...
I use my phone flashlight. Get a tiny bit of playdough/clay and make a holder around the light and it works fairly well
Hopefully they will today, but I added some 2 days late so they will hatch on Wednesday I hope.
I candle before lockdown like FloorCandy does. When I do, I mark the ones that I think will not hatch but I leave them in in case they do hatch. Doing this is a great way to improve your candling skills. Good luck with your hatch!!! My quail are due to hatch today and tomorrow!!! :jumpy :jumpy...
I should probably mention she is (was, she stopped laying) the only one that would let our male mate with her, I'm not sure if that would mess up her feathers like though.
Hmm idk why it didnt put the attachment for the photo you need higher resolution for so here it is here
