Hey guys...I have a bit of a problem. We have way to many roosters and we can’t get rid of them. What do you guys do when this happens? We don’t want to process them ourselves as we simply don’t have the time, but they are becoming aggressive with each other and the hens.

We no longer have a rooster as he was getting aggressive. He really became aggressive with the black one with the most feathers missing. She didn't look like that then. Just a few missing from the back of her head. We got rid of him over a month ago. What do you dongle a feather plucker? Is it...

Can anyone tell me what this might be from? Is it molting? Is it chickens fighting? I thought molting, but I also read egg production should drop during molting and my girls are still putting them out everyday. I just want them to be healthy. So any input will help. Thanks!

Not very happy today. Went out to the garden/run and as I was bending over picking something up Johnny, our rooster, jumped on my backside. I yelled and stood up really fast. I turned around and he came at me from the front side not once, but twice. He's never done his before and we are always...

Hey All!!! Haven't been on in a while. Wanted to ask opinions. We have a rooster that will be a yr old in April. Another rooster picked all his tail feathers out when he was about 4 months. We got rid of the other rooster. We get his bum to looking like feathers are growing back and then it ends...

How are your Ayam Cemani's doing? I didn't realize they are cold hearty chickens. My husband has been reading about them because he wants to add a roo and a hen to our flock. Where are you getting them? I swear he told me they were like $1500!!

For you guys that raise Easter Eggers, Ameraucanas, Olive Eggers or Araucanas what's the biggest difference? Do you have a comparison of their egg colors? Do you prefer one over the other? I would love a true BLUE egg laying chicken and my husband wants a Olive Egger for the olive eggs.

So just a little fun...there is a debate going on at my house what color these eggs are. What's your opinion? My husband thinks they are blue and the other five of us in the house think they are a light green.

@kie4 We waited to eat ours. Now we only have one laying out of 27. We take the shells and grind them down and give them back to the chickens or we use them for the garden.

I'm wanting to know what kind of lighting ya'll use in the coop. With the daylight being shorter as it is my girls aren't getting enough light since the cold has really set in. They tend to stay inside a lot. They have 2 windows, but that's not enough light. I do have a new layer though. A...

On Sunday we decided to clip the chickens wings. They were flying out of the run and when it was time to go into the coop they would try to get back in, but couldn't find a way. It was heck chasing them everywhere. We got 26 of the 28 clipped. One was smarter than the rest and didn't fall for...

I have never had chickens until this year. I have always wanted them though. We did a lot of research on the best chickens with children. We read on several different places Road Island Reds could be mean and pick on other chickens of the flock. We ended up with 5 and they are actually at the...

Haha. I use to use gentian violet all the time for thrush. I had some stains in some weird places. (Breastfeeding at the time). If it came in a spray bottle I'd probably just get that and use it. I've also made a diaper cream that has alot of antibacterial properties in it I might use also...

I have gentian violet on hand. I could probably put some of that on him until I get to the feed store. I had cleaned his bottom before with a peroxide and water mixture and put vaseline on it to help stop it from bleeding, but that was months ago. It seemed to be getting smaller with little...

I have a rooster that had his tail feathers plucked out by another rooster. We have since then gotten rid of the other rooster, probably 4 months ago. His feathers never really seemed to be growing back. Now it looks as if hens are pecking at his bottom. Today when I went out his backside is...

My sand doesn't stink any more than the stink a chicken would give off if that makes sense. It smells worse in the run with the muddy mess we have than it does in the cooo with the sand.
