Thanks for the help! And while I'm here, even you KU fans can be happy about the beat down Mizzou just got!

I don't have an outside brooder setup. My brooder was going to be inside my garage, and I was hoping to keep them in it until they were ready to go into the coop (no electricity). That was mainly why I'm worried about size. Is this a bad idea? If that won't work, I suppose I could go buy a...

Is 32'' x 18'' big enough for a brooder for 5 chicks? Intially I was going to use a dog crate, but since it's wire, I was worried about keeping the heat in. So I decided to just build a box out of plywood, something like 3'x5' or something like that. I'd have to buy all the supplies for my...

Quote: If it doesn't see what's coming does it keep the smell away? Or can it spray still once it's hit? I'd just hate to have my whole coop sprayed!

Thanks for all the input everyone! You're making my coop planning much easier. Chookschik-the coop will be 6x4, but they'll also have a 6x12 run, and access to the yard when I'm home. I'm planning to have 5 or 6 birds in it. You're idea for a feeder sounds great, let us know if you build one.

Quote: Thanks. In hindsight it probably wasn't the best name for this site. It was a nickname given to me back in high school, and I've just used it ever since. I use the same login for everything so I don't have to remember a bunch of different ones. So I hope it doesn't offend anyone on here

Thanks, and I havn't decided what yet, but I plan to put some type of cover in the run (maybe sand). And they'll be allowed out of the run and have access to the yard when I'm home. Thanks for the input.

I have two more quick questions, but here's my background. I'm building my coop inside a 6'x12' dog kennel. I'm lining the sides with wire mesh to make the holes smaller from the fence. It's also fenced across the top and bottom. I plan to build the coop off the ground to allow that extra...

Thanks for you input everyone. My Wife just wanted to try pullets so we would get eggs sooner, but maybe we'll go with chicks. Sounds like the safer way to go. She's worried that by the time chicks are ready to lay, winter will be coming, and they may wait until next spring to lay. Is that...

Another rookie question, but you just show up and people have chickens for sale? I'm not real particular but I think I like Barred Rocks, Black Autralorps, and maybe Orphintans. I'm looking for 6 total I think. And that may be too soon, unless I can keep them in a pen in my garage for a bit...

Hello all. I hope this is the right place to post this. I havn't had time to look over all the different threads so far. I'm in the process of building my coop now. Should be done very soon. So obviously I've never owned chickens before. I think for my first round I would like to start...
