Can you tell me more about the leg feathering? I have one ~7 week old cockerel that has leg feathering. so it may go away? His looks pretty robust tho. Is it common among Blue Am's?
Any ideas on the sex of this little blue one? I think this one has the clown face y'all were mentioning...where can I read more about that? Here I thought s/he was cuter than the "plain old" blue ones
Thanks, I looked today in the sun & he has orange with gold highlights so you are correct it is not the pic.
So, does this make him an EE & not an Ameraucana? IMO, either way he is a handsome devil
By off, do you mean dark? He seems very dark to me. Especially compared to the yellow/blue wheaten that I could've chosen over him.
ETA:
Also, is he an ameraucana? I think the breeder said his beard/muff wasn't perfect but he said he was an am.
Thanks! & more importantly he seems really sweet so far.
I checked the link & he is definitely a wheaten- even has the white fluff at the base of the tail. Sorry the pic isn't better (cell phone). I'll get more once I can have him out & about in a month or so.
Here is my new rooster. I traded in my aggressive hatchery Orp (& a few bucks ) and got this guy.
I think he is an Ameraucana, not an EE, but I can't remember all the rules-lol! I know I can count on the experts here to tell me for sure. BTW, he does have slate legs though you can't see them...
so wheaten is recessive? A wheaten crossed with a blue (NOT wheaten) will produce blues? that carry the wheaten gene?
sorry i know just enuf about genetics to be dangerous-LOL!
Well I brought home some mealies tonight & OMG they went crazy. There was a lot of.flapping & sqwaking but they were.mostly fighting over the worms. They could not eat if I was holding them but they'd snag them right out of my hand
Has anybody ever used superworms? They were huge. I guess...
Oh, I didn't realize there was spazzy phase- LOL! I tried red wrigglers & they screamed & ran from them too! I guess I could pick up some meal worms on my way home if you think it will help...
This is my experience too. I have 4 blue/black and they are freaks about everything. I am hoping they settle down once they get out with the other birds but I am sure they will not want me handling them anymore. I have a hard enough time getting them now when they are in a tiny brooder cage...
aw lovely chicks! This really helps because my crew is much like yours. I think i do have 3 blues and one black. One of my blues is lighter than the other 2 but wow your light one is almost cream colored...beautiful. thanks for posting them
where can i learn about chicken genetics? What does the lacing look like? I did notice the wing feathers on my babies seemed a little thin in spots. sort of like a barring effect...they are too small to get a good shot of but I will post a pic when i can.
Okay thanks for posting these pix! So in chicks, yellow turns white as they age? Looking at the blue i see where everyone is saying i have only one blue...but it is strange because the other 2 are much lighter than the black one...even the primary wing feathers coming in are distinctly...
Oh don't worry she's staying- feathered feet & all, as long as she is a she. I am new to chickens so i am continually amazed at how much fun it is to just sit & watch them, especially the babies.
