One of my Easter Egger hens snuck away for a month and hatched out a clutch of six chicks! Her rooster was a Light Brahma. I'm having fun watching the chicks and trying to guess what they will look like, sex, and egg colors. They have very sparse leg feathering and are shades of brown and...
Here is one of my new EE chicks, which really stood apart from the rest in coloration and size. Day old here.
And now the same EE at three weeks old. He/She is very friendly compared to the other EE chicks. I can't believe the change is color patterns. Does anyone else have a similar...
I'm so jealous. I tried crossing my brahma x EE and didn't get the feathered feet. But this one is beautiful! It's heavily feathered too. I would love to see pictures of her all grown up.
I have a one year old EE hen that I found crowing this morning. I don't believe she is a he. I mean it's been a year. Can a hen crow like a rooster? There is no big tail, although it's always plucked out so it's hard to tell. I have a hen apron on her because it appears our rooster has...
I had hatched out a EE X Brahma chick in the end of September. Things were going well and it was starting to look like a black and white EE chick, until one of my cats decided to eat it tonight. It is missing and I suspect the cat ate it. Hubby says we'll have to try again next year...
My EE's started laying at about 18 weeks. They came from McMurray hatchery. I am very impressed with that part. However, they are not as diversely colored and pretty as so many others. They are also not that tame/friendly. I guess they breed for egg production.
I love the picture of the...
There are some beautiful beards and cheeks to admire. I don't think my new chick has muffs or a beard. Or the feathered feet I was so hoping for. Someone else mentioned wanting to make an EE with feathered feet, beard and muffs...I was thinking that same thing and how cool that would be.
Wishing4Wings: Yup, I moved the hen onto the floor of the coop. We made the corner into a boxed-in area so it feels like a nest box, but on the floor. She didn't get upset at all. I moved the eggs down with her and put them back underneath her. The baby won't drink any water yet, but it got...
MamaHenChris: Thanks for sharing. I guess the yellow legs is ok after seeing yours. I wish mine had the feathered feet like your cochin cross. Glad to hear yours lays a colored egg, hopefully mine will (if it's a female).
She's sitting on 4 other EE eggs yet, but when I tried to candle...
The chick that hatched last night. Light Brahma rooster X EE hen (blue egg).
I can't believe the feet are not feathered! Also, they are yellow. The color pattern looks like an EE with that chipmunk type stripe down the back.
I crossed my Light Brahma rooster to some EE hen eggs (several blue eggs and one olive green egg). One blue egg hatched last night!!
I was really expecting it to have feathered feet like the Brahma. It also has yellow legs and I thought EE only have slate legs? I'm not sure what's going on...
Cool, an EE with feathered feet! That's what I want too. So my next question is, is my brahma rooster considered a light brown egger or a dark brown egger? That way I can know if the results will be a light green or olive green.
I have a broody hen right now and I'm thinking about letting her hatch out some eggs. I know this has been asked before, but I can't remember the answer.
Brown egger rooster (light brahma) X Blue egger hen (EE) = ? egger
Brown egger rooster (light brahma) X Green egger hen (EE) = ? egger...
