OK so now on sexing these little cuties. I remember reading somehwere last year that roos feather out slower. Does anyone know if this is true? My babies are getting quite a bit of wing feathers, but I have one liitle chick in the bunch that has barely any. And my Orpington has none yet. My...
Raimnel: I thought you might like to see my Light BrahmaXAmeraucana from last year. Her name is Baby and I think she turned out really pretty. The first one is a pic of her real young last summer and the second is a mature girl this winter.
Here's a pic of a few of mine. The one on the left is a blue silkie, then an EE, Black Orpington and another EE. I had several losses and one that was born with it's intestines on the outside. I have a real messy incubator to clean this morning. Congrats to everyone! I ended up with 13...
Very cool on the guineas. We raised a couple lest year. Very cool birds. And very pretty.
I had 4 more babies this morning when I woke. My last silkie pipped yesterday afternoon and still no progress. I hope everything is alright in there. I have 4 eggs that have done nothing.
Well guys-
I watched the one that pipped low and I could see her beak poking out and it wasn't moving and didn't appear to be breathing so I pulled it and was going help it but it had already passed. Poor thing must have suffocated in the carton. This will probably be the last time I use the...
So I decided to open my bator and remove some of the chicks and consoladate into one egg carton and one of the eggs I moved had pipped at the wrong end. I placed it on it's side on the wire rack and am hoping it will make it. The pip sight looks rubbery, I don't know how else to explain it. It...
Oh cute silkies! I have one black silkie so far and 2 more silkie eggs to hatch, one is zipping right now and appears to be blue or black. I am really hoping for a white one or a splash tho.
They are all so cute. I can't wait to hold one, I wish these straglers would hurry up:)
Clothdiaperingmom-
Yep it sure is an EE That one is a RIRxameraucana and EEs can have feathered feet since they are basically an Ameraucana or an Araucana crossed with any other breed. I have a light brahma EE that has feathered feet.
I think the EE's usually have the dark markings around their eyes. All mine do...looks like eye liner. Most of my babies hatching now are EEs. I have an Ameraucana Roo and a mix of laying hens. A RIR, BCM, Golden laced polish, cinnamon queen and some Ameraucana hens. I'm hoping for a...
Oh yeah We have 5 babies now and another pip..
How long should I leave them in there? The first one born has been in there for almost 12 hours now. Three of the five are completely dried and fuzzy. Is it too risky to open it and remove them?
New2chooks- that is good news. I have 6 in there. 4 are a very dark almost purpley shell and 2 are a very light shell. I know the BCM are very hard to hatch and I didn't know if that was because of the dark dark shells. So I will just keep my fingers crossed. I'll will post some pics soon
I got up several times in the night and had a chick by 1 am and now this morning(it's 5 am here) I have three chicks and 4 almost out. It's a silkie:D A dark colored one. I am really hoping for a splash out of one of these silkie eggs. None of my Orpingtons have even pipped. HMMM! Come on...
Not much change for me. I have two pips and lots of rocking. My temps raised sometime in the night to 103 and I have no idea how long they were like that. I have it back down to 101.8 now.
Congrats on all the chicks
Thank you poultrymom. I think I will have my husband hold the lid up and I will move them all and and soak up some of the water out of the tray. Her goes nothing.
my egg carton is getting wetter and now I have some condensation strting on my windows. It just took so long to get my temps back up after lock down. Should I transfer them into a whole new carton?
I just got home from work and ran straight down to the bator and I have a pip. I also noticed that in my attemps to get the humidity up I have over filled the tray and gotten the bottom of my egg crate wet on one side. I hurried and opened it and layed the two eggs that were in the wet spot...
I came home for lunch and I stuck my ear to the glass and I can hear some chirping. So excited and now I know that the long day of getting back up to temp yesterday didn't harm all of them.. I have something going on in there.
