Someone else pointed this out! I know I got three Australorps when I only ordered two, I guess I just thought they sent me three BR instead of four ... I will count them tomorrow. Apparently my eyes do not work properly! HAHAHAHahahahaha!
This is exactly chicken math - the original plan was to...
They're HERE! I am so over the moon excited! I swear, I am a kid at Christmas! I has PEEPS! Three Australorps, three Barred Rocks and two Speckled Sussexes. Are they not the cutest things EVER? Squeeeeeeeeeeee!
This was from Chickens from Backyards and the boxes were clearly labelled. When I called the PO after the fact, they couldn't understand why the chicks were shipped - I made sure they had my addy and phone number for my next shipment - I should say that Chickens for Backyards agreed to reimburse...
As you can see, we got Australorp babies. Sadly they didn't make it. Long story short, the PO delivered them to my house when they were supposed to hold on to them until I picked them up. Next shipment comes the first of next week.
I have a date for when our baby chickies will be arriving - two Australorps, along with two Speckled Sussexes and two Barred Rocks will be arriving here in Central Florida on the 19th of February ... I can't wait! Will post photos!
Well .... most of the white ones I've seen are in a location called Meritt Island. I imagine some of the folks living there might let you on their property to capture some - last one I saw was at my X In-Law's house. Maybe someone on the Florida list might have some on their property.
We've got blue ones and white ones in the wild down here - I dearly wish someone would come and either collect them up for their own farm or shoot the durn things. Terribly invasive on wildlife.
Yep - down here in Florida, they alight upon any nearby rooftop and scream .... I have no love for the critters, but do respect those who keep them responsibly.
That is truly interesting. I love taking a hobby and making it cost effective, or even in this case, covering the entire cost. I used to do this with reptiles as well as aquarium plants - I actually sold aquatic plants on Ebay and did quite well. While I am not interested in selling feathers, or...
Oooh, people BUY the feathers? Welp, I guess they would. That's pretty neat. Still not for me. Pretty but ... I'll stick with chickens. And no, I've never tasted a duck egg ... I'm so forlorn!
If by peafowl you mean peacocks and peahens (likely you do) they are a huge invasive problem here in Florida and have become a real bane to me ... their cawing at all hours and eating native wildlife - I'm not sure I could raise them without hating them. Aside from that, do they produce a lot of...
113F --- yeeesh! One of the reasons I decided on Australorps was their supposed heat tolerance - I live in Florida and while we don't get actual temps that high, we have horrible humidity issues and temps over 100 with heat index are common. I wanted birds that could handle our blistering...
Really? How is that? We can't have a rooster so, its likely not going to happen, but saying I got some land down the road and moved shop ... I'd really like to breed some hens.
We should get them the second week of February. We ordered pullets but the hatchery claims to have a 90% success rate of sexing chicks - so we might end up with a rooster. I considered this when I ordered, so I got two extra pullets from our original number, figuring that gave me a good bit of...
