in this breed i dont see a lot of difference between show and hatchery. i am sure most of mine are hatchery but they are docile, lay good, and are pretty good sized.
it looks like another breed has popped up in your australorps. it may be several generations back. some things have popped up in mine this year but have figured out which hen is throwing the birds with wrong color eyes. she is a good layer but real light brown eggs. will not hatch any more eggs...
at tractor supply, the breeds are always getting mixed up. sounds like you got some black sex links. i haven't had this breed long enough to be any expert but from what i have seen with my birds any white tipped feathers will be gone when they are grown. i have a question of my own: do all black...
they might like hearing a rooster crow or you might have to give them free eggs to ignore your roo. i try to keep it under 6 roosters here but we are zoned agricultural.
