Australorps breed Thread

I had a major setback in my Australorps a few weeks ago. Both my number one cock and back-up cockerel were killed by a raccoon. This means I have no male breeder. Argh! Is anyone else here located in Virginia? I looked at the VPBA show last month but since I got there early, the judges hadn't finished and there weren't name cards on any cages. The sales area had no Australorps, either. Send me a PM if you have something you'd be willing to part with. I want to locate a breeder before I turn in my NPIP paperwork otherwise I'll be required to get one only from someone else in the program. Thanks!

Good luck, you might try the Virginia Poultry Club thats online, there is a gal there who has some BA's but you might have to do the chick thing, not many folks are giving up a good cockbird. Many folks who hatch out chicks will keep the best for breeding pens or show birds and cull or sell out the less desireable birds(you really dont want those).
loosing good birds are always a setback and depending on how serious you are about your quality, sometimes it pays to start from square one again.

very possibly, if you find a breeder in your state, they may be willing to let you breed your females with thier male and just give them some hatching eggs in return, just a suggestion.

hope all goes good for you!
the best to you and yours
