My brooder and lamp looks just like yours, except with a rubbermaid instead of aquarium. I've been removing the clamps since day one, never could stand those things.
What IS kinda interesting is that my dad has an ANCIENT one, and his actually works - I mean it will clamp hard and hold...
Hey Buff Beauty, I just loooooove this little girl! She's ADORABLE!
These are bantams?? They don't seem that much smaller than my other chicks, at this point anyway. I guess I need to get myself over to the SF thread. hehehe
I'd guestimate we got 7-8" out where my chickens live (4 miles from my house, very edge of the city)
I put on chains to go water them. Only took about an hour and a half to get my truck ready and make the trip The hardest part was getting back into the driveway (sharp turn and hill, plus a...

are they huddling under the lamp or moving around acting fairly normal? I say if they are acting normal, then their feathers are keeping them plenty warm enough! But if they were huddling up all day under the lamp, yeah I'd worry.
My 8 week olds were out running around in the pouring...

Here's a pic I took today, with one of them front and center. We call him Eagle Boy coz of the white head and dark body.
All the fall chicks are together in the tractor now, and are doing great!
I just walked down to the corner gas station, silly me didn't get cigs earlier when it was just starting. It's piling up on my truck. It's really light powdery stuff, which is good, but on the main roads it's packed down pretty solid. Not terribly slick yet, but if it gets to 35 tomorrow and...

They seem to have updated the weather report for central AR. Calling for 2-4" today in the daytime, and 100% chance of up to 3 ADDITIONAL inches overnight. LOL Plus the temp has actually dropped a degree, so I expect it to say all snow - which is good! I'm sure you'll get your share
It's snowing pretty steadily here in Benton. Just started less than an hour ago. The "bad" roads are actually better, coz of the thinner pavement they are warmer so it's not sticking to them yet. Bridges are already very white though. Fortunately it's coming down as a light, fluffy SNOW, rather...

You don't want hers...she won Best of Variety and Best of Breed at the American Poultry Association National Poultry Show this month with her Bantam Faverolles! Her birds are VERY nice!!!!!
Well I got a pair
When I put them in with Mr Lonely (a BSL cockerel) he started making a low...
Does anybody in Central Ar have month-old chicks right now? Unfortunately I have lost one, and have a lonely Thanksgiving chick left by himself. He could use some company if anybody has chicks similar-aged to spare let me know!!
I'm having trouble with the animal control again. Sooooo I'm casually looking for a house outside of the city (not like we have any money though)
and in the meantime I think I'm gonna downsize my flock. If I have to move them to my in-laws the pen is only 16*16 and I won't be able to free range...
A lot of state parks that have restrooms and running water utilities do require a daily use fee (whether or not you fish) to upkeep the services.
We have a lake near us that has no fees, but there is little or no trash service, no utilities, and there are only stinky porta potties if you need...

I dunno, but I do find it rather annoying. I dry all my clothes outside, but I can do them inside it's just bleh when it's so hot out in the morning it's perfect drying weather (well the humidity is a BIT high, but the sunsihine dries them fast enough) but I can't leave them out while...

Yeah. Showing birds seems like a biosecurity NIGHTMARE to me. Not that I'm especially careful with my birds right now, but I wouldn't want to be spreading things at shows so I'd have to get with the program, ya know.
My boss must be getting the chicken bug from me.
I'm selling him some of the ones that I hatched out in March, but he wants to wait till they are "started" aged coz he doesn't *do* brooding. . . . I have 12 straight run, but of couse he's only gonna buy the pullets (no biggie, I'll eat the...

Not everyone has a resource as large as your's!
I don't go to church either.
My aunts collect them, and my grandma, and my mom, and my mother in law. I only have enough hens to supply me, mom and MIL, but my aunts and grandma have given me quite a few cartons anyway. Sometimes I don't...

I get 2$ a dozen for mine and they sell like crazy. Just wish people would bring the egg cartons back , had to buy some this weekend and that adds up. Anybody Know a good cheap place to buy them?
That's why you charge extra if they don't bring a carton back
