I sell my extra eggs for $3 here in dry west texas. I have started attending a new church and am not that familiar with pastor or his family. I took 2 18 packs to the pastors wife sunday. In our conversation she told me they have 7 children. Well, my meager gift may only be one breakfast!!!!!!

Sometimes when nobody else is laying yet you can tell just by looking at their vents. You will know when you see it trust me. Of course this still requires getting awfully personal with a chicken.

My advice is go and have a great time. Deal with it when you get home. That will definitely keep your hands and mind off of whats going on in the bator. You can remove chicks or yuck eggs when you return. They don't usually hatch at an exact time and sometimes not even on the expected day. They...

I candle about 10 days and again at lockdown. Other than that I leave them be except adding water as necessary. always take a wiff when adding water in case you get a stinky egg. Sometimes, we just try too hard.

The sweet spot for me is 45% until lockdown, 65% at lockdown. I have always laid my eggs down and can't really speak for the carton method since I Have never tried it. Remember shipped eggs are notoriously disappointing. I still try though.

Just sharing my opinion. We are too dry out here for dry hatch. People who have great success with it that I have talked to live in areas that are not semi arid like us. Please don't be offended. its just my opinion and can be ignored with no hard feelings.

A neighbor gave me a turkey to process. He is under my carport in a dog crate currently. He can't be anywhere close to my chickens since I saw little clear looking yellowy bugs on him. I have processed my own dual purpose birds for awhile but have never processed a turkey. Any advice? His time...

It sounds like you did everything right. I am in your climate. I run humidity at 45 til lockdown and then 65. Buy a $10 hygrometer at home depot and double check your readings. Be sure your incubator is not in a drafty spot. Wishing you a great hatch this next time. I lay mine down to hatch but...

I think if you lived in the Austin area it would be worth exploring especially if you could service san Antonio as well. it wouldn't be simple but a neat seasonal business. im thinking not much happening in winter.

Was anyone watching CBS this morning. Story about renting out chickens and supplies. Very cool business idea. Would apply more thought to it if I was not miles and hours from any target market. Happy Easter. He has Risen!!!!

Yes we are using peat moss as mulch. It really sucks the water when u first put it down but holds it in the soil beautifully. The paper and peat can be turned right into the soil at the end of the season

RachealS- Good Friday is considered safe from frost planting in most of Texas. Deep S Texas has its own rules. We plant through a planting paper that discourages weed growth and helps keep moisture in the soil. We also cover that with peat moss. Water is a valuable commodity in this drought and...

Happy Good Friday!!! Got the garden all in. Always try and plant on good Friday. I am sooo tired. We used lots of plant paper and peat moss to maximize veggies and minimize water and weeds. Hatching like crazy here. Got 25 or so in the brooder. They are all my own eggs-Marans and Arkansas Blue...
